Lens Cap vintage Chrome Summilux 50mmgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Hello BoysDo you know if Leica ever did a Chrome Lens Cap for the "old" Summilux 50, or if it was intented to be used with the shade XOOIM with plastic cap (which I have got and which works fine, but which does not fit into a vintage M3 everready case)?

Yes they did and the part no. is 14036/ORNIO. It will be easier to find the later plastic version, 14123. Leica may still have this cap available new.

ThomasYes Leica had a chrome and later black (light, aluminum) cap to fit over the older (E43 fron ring) 50/1.4 Summilux lenses. They say "Leica" in script on the front, just like the more common E39 type metal caps. I think they also had a heavier black paint on brass metal cap for the black paint Summilux lenses. Unfortunately, the these chrome and black metal caps are very uncommon. If you want the original cap that went with the Wetzlar 50/1.4 Summiluxes you may have to pay $ 75 or so, if you can find one.
They later made a squeeze-grip black plastic E43 cap for the 50/1.4 Summilux, which you can get. I think they changed the current 50/1.4- M front ring to E46, so the current cap (which goes on the lens with the built-in sliding hood) is not suitable for the older E43 lenses. I prefer to have the original caps that went with the lens when it was manufactured, and they can sometimes be challenging to find.
