fat ice in alps next monthgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread |
ok, tuan, this one is probably for you. i fly out next week to go ice climbing in the alps. the conditions in france are looking pretty lean right now. are there any sites that are known to have consistent ice, even in a dry season? anything in switzerland or austria that you could recommend for me (i wont have a car, so easy access is a plus)? thanks for your help!-todd

In general, it is difficult to get to the sites without a car. Two of the sites which combine easy access without a car and reliable ice are Ceillac (you can walk to the climbs, which are close to the ski resort, from the village) and l'Alpe d'Huez, which is a large ski resort, and the home turf of Godefroi Perroux. These two sites do not offer climbs of great difficulty. Keep in mind I haven't climbed there for nine years so I am not aware of recent developments.
