Abrahamsson Soft Release drops off.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I've put an Abrahamsson Softie on my new M6. It has fallen off twice, but not lost. I don't want to force it on too hard.

Any suggestions? Should I put a little rubber washer underneath. If this goes on too much longer, I'm going loose the Softie .. and I love it!

Try using a little teflon plumbers tape. rap it no the threads and screw it in the more turnes of tape the tighter the fit. Also works on loose screws.

There is a blue liquid that mechanics use to prevent screws from working loose. Put a tiny tiny dab. You can unscrew again if you want to, just that it makes the threads a bit "sticky" so parts don't work loose by themselves.

The blue liquid is called 'Loctite 242 Super Nut Lock' and is available in little 10ml bottles for about $5. If you use it, apply only a very, very small amount to the threads of your softie. It is not a permanent adhesive but will stop your 'softie' from working loose.

A small drop of paint works just as well and is not so runny. Regardless, hold the camera upside down when you screw the softy in with any liquid thread locking compound. Leave it up side down until the stuff sets. Otherwise you might....

I only had trouble with my softie. It fell off all the time. And then the chrome discolored very quickly. And because it kept firing on it's own free will I would take it off and leave it in the bottom of the camerea bag. But then one day it went missing or fell off. To be honest i dont miss it much...

and what was this o-ring trick to prevent unwanted fireing?

Tom told me to put clear nail polish on the threads and allow it to dry, then screw in. I've had them in place for several years now under hard use and no loss.

I can rattle off a litany of gripes about design quirks of the Leica M I would like rectified but the shutter release isn't among them. In almost 35 years I've never felt the need for anything softer than my fingertip to release the shutter. It fits the button and the little dish beneath it perfectly. I've seen the "Softie", how on earth do you get the camera in and out of the bag without tripping the shutter by accident?

Hmmm... you got me curious, Jay. Are you going to post it or could I have it in a private mail? As you might know I like to chew on stuff like that...;o) Cheers.
