One of my pups had signs of tapeworms.I bought three Cestex pills which cost me $10.50.In my KV Vet Supply catalog they have Droncet tablets that I can buy with a prescription from my vet.I called my vet today and was told they don't write prescriptions. Have any of you had sucess with other tapeworm treatments? Bettie

Febendazole is also good against tapeworms and can be obtained as Safe Guard which is relatively inexpensive. You give 10x the dose as you would give large animals and for three days.It is safe to give and effective. You can also get Panacur for horses which is the same.

You can ask your vet for liquid Panacure, it's easier to dose than the paste. I started using the liquid Safeguard, same thing, early this year for my dogs. I dose at 1cc per 5lbs, 3 days in a row. You can dose again in 10 days for 3 more days. I still am not fully convinced that Panacure gets tapeworms with one treatment. I think it takes at least 2. If they have fleas, they can just get tapeworm again from the fleas. I dose the pups every 2 weeks, and pups over 3 months every month, and adults every 2 months. I got a 1000 cc bottle of liquid Safeguard for $100.00.

Bettie, I just ordered Droncet tablets from Australia, no prescription needed. I have 5 cats who all seem to get tapeworm from hunting, and to take all 5 to the vets is a nightmare with travel and costs. Go to www.pets-magastore.com and you will find the droncet tablets. Costs are in Aus $ and are also shown in US $. The company was excellent, shipping took about a week.
