Photograms

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

I was browsing some of the other posts and came across a thread on photograms. I found the idea very interesting and wondered if anyone out there has an experience or success/failure stories to share. I thought I might try something like making first exposure on the paper a straight portrait and then experiment a bit by placing a large leaf or other object over this exposed print and then making a second exposure that would blacken up everything not covered by the leaf. Sort of a vignette effect. Thanks!!

If you are doing color, your leaf will give you quite a color shift... like using a green filter providing that it is a fresh leaf. Testing is the protocol here. Print the portrait lighter because you will build up density from the leaf... Nice idea for a "texture screen effect" though. I had a good friend who was a florist who used to just put exotic flowers down on the color paper with beautiful results!

If you're just looking for a silouette of the leaf, you might have to paint the leaf black to keep light from being transmitted.
