Went to town today and saw a big sign on the Farm & Fleet store that said they were closing. Everything was marked down. 1 employee said the whole company was going out of bizness. Bought a few things that were needed last week & may go back later and look at some others as prices go down.

I hadn't seen anything in the news about this. Have you?

It has been on our news since yesterday. Mostly becasue people are mad because they are not accepting any gift certificates that people have. And I guess a lot of people received them for Christmas and now they can't use them. I don't see why they can't. The local store here is in West Virginia, and I guess people are complaining to the States Attorney General, who thinks they should have to take them.

Is Quality Farm and Fleet the same company as CT Farm? I notice they have Quality Farm on their ads. I hope not, that's where I buy my chickens and I'm planning to buy some more in a few months! A year or so CT bought out or merged with the store that was there, can't remember the name and they expanded the store. The do a great business here so I do hope they aren't closing. TSC I believe is Tractor Supply. The same sort of store, farm supplies.

I haven't heard anything about Farm and Fleet going out of business here in Wisconsin. In fact, the local Farm and Fleet here in La Crosse is actually hiring. The Mills Fleet Farm over in Winona, Minnesota is having some problems though I heard from relatives who live on that side of the river.

Blains Farm and Fleet in Morton,IL. is open and doing well as far as I know. The do automotive work such as oil and brakes and carry clothing and have a large toy department around the Christmas season. They also have the usual farm supply that you would expect. I don't own a farm but I buy alot of power tools there. I think that is why they do so well. They are diverse in the products that they carry. There is a TSC store that is only 8 mi. away that doesn't do nearly as well.

Mill's Fleet Farms all across the Midwest are doing great. They just build a 250,000 sq ft store in Iowa and will be opening a new store in MN. soon. Mills Fleet Farm out beats Blains Farm & Fleet by miles. The biggest Blains Farm & Fleet i have ever seen was no larger than a barn. Its like shopping at a junk store. Mills Fleet Farm is much cleaner and carry QUALITY products!

The Mills just opened their newest store in Mason City. Depending on the sucess of that store they will most likely expand into Iowa. They would like to build a new store every year so hopefully it won't be long until another Iowa location is added. It wouldn't hurt to write the owners a letter letting them know where you would like to see a store built.

I went to their website at www.qualityfarmandfleet.com and saw a news release from the company. It looks like they are going to keep some stores and distribution centers open while they reorganize but will be concentrating their effort in the eastern part of the country. If you want them to know how important having a store is in your area then let them know. Ted Britton is the Vice President of Human Resources and Administration and his e-mail address is ted.britton@qff.com. Tell your friends and family and inundate them with requests, it'll make a difference...especially in bankruptcy court and with banks.

I am working in MN on a temporary basis and stumbled upon a MILLS FLEET FARM store. What a great place to get just about anything you need for house and home - and those that live in it. Don't know about the other fleet farm stores, but I can say that these MILLS beat the pants off Lowe's and Home Depots - the closest thing we have in Cali. I just wish they'd expand to the West so I can go there when I go back home!

No. The only Mills Fleet Farm in IA is in Mason City. Since that is their first store in IA, I wouldn't doubt that they advertised all over the state. Drive up to Mason City and check out the store. If you like it, write the company and let them know you would like to a store closer to you!

I have no idea about QUALITY Farm & Fleet. I grew up in Wisconsin and the northern part of the state had Mills Fleet Farm but the southern part of the state had (Blain's?) Farm & Fleet that had the same logo of back to back Fs. Rumor was that the stores founders were related but divided up the area.

The Mills stores are based out of Brainerd Minnesota (http://www.millsauto.com/MillsAuto/). The web site for the stores is quite poor but does have a map of their locations.

We have one of the larger stores about 4 miles from my house in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St Paul Minnesota).

The stores have a rural (I know that that sounds like a mismatch for a large metro area) "general store" feeling with large sections for farm supplies, hunting supplies, tools, building supplies, automotive, housewares, and work clothes.

For the obvious reason of size, they don't have as wide a variety of building supplies as the stores of the same size (Home Depot, Menards) which are completely dedicated to building supplies, but they have a good solid base of most types of them.

Just for the record...CT Farm & Country (Central Tractor) was a company headquartered in Iowa serving, pricipally, the upper Midwest. CT bought ConAgra's retail business called Country General. A short time after that, Quality Farm & Fleet stores, headquartered in Michigan, merged with Central Tractor. And Quality stores was the surviving entity...however, it did not survive. It wasn't long after that merger that the whole company went under. Several of their locations were sold off to TSC, other were sold off to regional farm store players such as Running's Supply. Mill's Fleet Farm (headquartered in Appleton, WI) operates about 30 stores in the Dakota's, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. Blain's Farm & Fleet (headquartered in Janesville, WI) operates approximately a similar number in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. Mill's stores are typically larger and often include building materials as part of their offering in the market. Blain's stores, while typically, a little smaller, still run in the 60,000 to 100,000+ sq. ft. range and have a pretty broad "general store" offering including, of course, very heavily in the farm and rural products.

Blain's farm and fleets is a company that is very cheap in my areas. At the urbana il one they took forever to build a new one to replace the old crappy one. Still they are very low in the debt areas :) Dont see that much these days.

Mills Fleet Farm got its name from the owners Stew and Hank Mills. Im pretty sure that Mills Fleet Farm was around before Blain's Farm & Fleet. I have been to a few Blains stores and they are nothing like the Mills stores. Even the older Mills stores look much cleaner and brighter then any Blains. The owner of both companies are NO relation! I believe they have an agreement on where they can build stores. I also think both companies purchase items together in bulk and have items (paint, feed) made exclusively for both companies together.

Blaine's F+F here is doing good. No news of closing or anything. I shop there a lot. Going there today to price motorcycle batteries. I get a lot of tools there also. Not to mention garbage bags, candy, clothes, socks, 9mm shells for my gun,and the wife buys all her cat and dog vaccines there.The biggest mistake I ever made was going to work there. The automotive garage is not a nice place. I'll be damned if I'm gonna work 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, not be able to smoke,and work holidays, all for $7.50 an hour.

Another is that they were not related by blood or by marriage,they were friends and made an agreement that one take the east side of wisconsin and the other take the west side. Does anybody know if Blains has a website address? I would like to know more about them, but can't seem to find a home page for the comapny. If I remember correctly, Mills Fleet Farm Co. is HQ'd out of Green Bay, WI. I`ve been shopping at the Blaine`s Farm and Fleet in Morton Illinois for 20 years.For most of that time I always relied on them to have the best selection and price on most things you need.The only drawback was their inability to keep popular items in stock.The management never seems to have any control over the quantity of items shipped to the store.Very annoying when you need something right away.The product lines of the store seemed to have shifted from good quality to lower quality cheap Chinese junk. The tool department has become a real disappointment.The selection of power tools seems to be shrinking.They used to carry my favorite brand of power tools...Bosch..But now they have been switching to their house brand called Duracraft..More than likely made in China. At least they still carry Milwaukee tools...but for how long?? The last time I was in there I could`nt even find a hammer drill. They used to carry a Bosch that I liked. And another thing..Prices..It seems Farm and Fleet`s rate of inflation is higher these days. They now have the highest price I`ve ever seen on a quart of Valvoline oil...$1.75!! On many items that were reasonably priced,I`ve seen of late, increases of 20%. The sales they run are`nt near the percentage off they used to be.Farm and Fleet has switched to cheaper suppliers on a lot of items and raised prices..I think the people have noticed too..The place is`nt nearly as crowded as it used to be.At least in my observations.

My wife works at Blains Farm & Fleet in Montgomery Illinois. She has heard nothing of them closing there. She is in IC (Inventory Control) and they are busier that bees. Blains Farm & Fleet does have a website, but as far as I am concerned it needs improvement. It is also one of the larger Farm & Fleets around. There is also a Farm & Fleet in DeKalb Illinois that might be closer for some? Also it is a great place to buy dog/cat food and doggy snacks(for my dogs,not me). They also seem to always have great sales on clothing and many other items. And their ToyLand is a ALWAYS a BIG hit and a BIG draw! :)

Haven't heard of any stores closing. I worked for the company for over 12 years and it was good to me. It didn't pay it's employees very much, but then what retail store does??? For those who really want to know the answer to the "What does TSC stand for?" Here is is: Tractor Supply Company Not much to it but they do have some of the things that Blain's Farm and Fleet doesn't have. If that isn't enough you can shop at Big R, Rural King or almost a half dozen other industrial and farm outfitters in the heart of farming country. i worked for quality farm and fleet in streetsboro and then the one in chardon ohio. streetsboro location had a bad fire and closed completely. chardon turned into a tractor supply store. i worked there for awhiile. it was nice but i dearly miss my quality farm and fleet. i worked there when i was 16, my very first job until i was 21. if anyone else is still in love with quality farm and fleet let me know. me and my friends want to open up a store again! lol it would never happen but that is our dream.... :)

I worked at the Traverse City, MI location of Quality Farm & Fleet from before opening (1998) until 2/99. Everything from salesperson to receiving supervisior (days, nights/keyholder, evenings, you name it. I left right before the merger (and took a nice $27,000 stock payout). The old building is now a TSC store, and seems never busy at all. Traverse City (store #60) was one of the best performers of all. Kinda sad now- we had a lot of great times! (Can you say lawn tractor races in the isles, go cart races, and pallet jack races throught the main isles? LOL.
