Stefan,

Really Right Stuff (a.k.a. RRS. Their site is www.reallyrightstuff.com) and Kirk Enterprises (www.kirkphoto.com) make quick release plates for cameras or lenses for mounting on an Arca-Swiss type quick release platform used on the Arca-Swiss B1 ballhead. Many other ballhead manufacturers have adopted this mounting the Arca- type mount. Companies like RRS and Kirk make camera and lens plates that fit the shape and contour of the body/lens, thus making it smaller and a much more reliable fit than universal mounting plates.

In case you don't know the Kirk M plate is a substantial thing that increases the size of the M quite as bit. It also has a big "Kirk Enterprises" stamp on it. I like it, but it is not exactly small. If you know this then sorry to be a bore. The RRS plate may not be the same.

Try using the RRS B9 plate on the Leica handgrip. You can mount the grip on the camera only as needed. And you only need one for all your M bodies. Alternatively you don't need a plate at all; just clamp the M body really tight directly on the Arca. Just becareful when shooting verticals with the 75mm Summilux.
