There have been many professional breeders I know, including myself, that have tried the home pregnancy tests, they do not work. Until the advent of a more cost-effective ultra sound device for goats, it was almost impossible to determine pregnancy. The cost from a vet to do one is about 25.00 per goat, depending where you are loacted.

Would a preg checker for sheep work on a goat? I forget exactly what ours cost but $400 Canadian I think.

we have a pregnancy tester that is supposed to be used on hogs and sheep. i have used it on goats but it isn't very reliable at all. I get a lot of false negatives. then I get a big surprise when she kids anyway!

A friend of mine uses the horse one in Jeffersequine.com you have to do known open does along with the suspected bred does as controls. She has very good luck with it. There are also labs who use blood, urine or milk for tests also. I don't have the addys but could find them if needed, or perhaps Bernice remembers. Vicki

Thanks all. I will look into the horse pregnancy test.I was looking for a test that is inexpensive to try.We have a Boer doe that is as wide as she is tall.We are not sure if this is due to over eating or if she is pregnant. Thanks. Jack Murdock MO.
