Have a nubain doe that has never had a kid????but wants to breed all the time.greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have this nubain doe that is well over 1 year, well about about 1 1/2 years old,she has never kided and she wants to breed all day every day if buck is not with her she will not leave does alone, she stays very rough with other goats also.I meen what is happening, she comes in heat but never goes out, this goes on alday, she will not stop.I had her in with others to clean campmeeting grounds till I saw she is so raw because she will not stop, she has been doing this for about 2 monthes now.every day all thrugh day.

Procreation is a goats main purpose in life. Perhaps it is time to have her bred, so she can have some kid goats to pay attention to.

Ed that is what I am saying she is bred every 3 weeks and every day in between ,she will not stop.

Hi Pastor Hughes, I have seen this in horses and assume it can happen in goats; she is in continual heat that doesn't go away after being bred and she does not get pregnant. In equines this sometimes can be caused by a internal growth or tumor, I think the tumor produces extra estrogen. It does not go away, and untreated horses have the problem for years. I think a vet visit would be a good idea. Good Luck! :) Leslie

It sounds from your description that she may be "cystic" that is have a cyst. The continual return to a heat cycle is one sign. In this case you would want to consider giving her lutlayse. This would stop the cycling and bring her into a good heat.

Bernice where do you get this .maybe at a feed store, thanks all
-- Pastor Hughes (hbchurch@brightok.net), January 13, 2002.
Lutylase is from a vet only. Luckily you can just buy a dose from him instead of a whole bottle. 3cc is pretty much the standard dose. Some give a bit less but I have always had pretty good luck with 3cc. Cystic ovaries are not that uncommon but I would put her on the cull list if one shot doesn't do the trick

I would also cull her. The lute and cysterellon protocoal will work for does who have kidded before, but to spend a vet visit, unless you buy the whole vials and have use for them you could spend a chunck on both, and if your vet isn't goat friendly I would doubt he would sell you the drugs, or even know how to use them on a goat. Then yes it may work if she is cystic, but if she is a free martin, or a hemaphrodite, you have wasted more money. How about your first goat sausage? Excellent meat. Vicki

I am with Vicki on this one. I would just cull her. In my experience, a doe with hormone problems and/or breeding problems continues to have problems and is just not worth the trouble if you are trying to have a working homestead where the animals are working along with you and not just pets.

I see you have already received very good advice. I'll just add mine, as it makes me feel useful. Your description of her behavior toward the other goats as 'mean' makes me lean toward the hermaphrodite theory; but then I reread your first sentences and surmise that she must actually stand for the buck - since a hermaphrodite thinks she IS a buck, she would be more likely to fight him, I think. A cystic ovary would be a worthwhile conclusion. I agree that I would cull the doe, based on past experience. Even if you gave her the lutelyse and managed to get her bred, there's no guaranty she wouldn't have the same problem later.

Thank you ladies for broaching the hermaphrodite possibility.... That was my second thought but I just didn't want to go there having just recomended to the man that he sell his goat.....I only feel that you should give people so much bad news in one post!!! The goat friendly vet was another thought but I just thought we could hope for the best-- being the optimist that I am! :-)

Hi all yes she stands for him flagging him and whole thing, yes he mounts yes his sperm goes in.she gets bred but just keeps it up and this is every day ,won't stop put her with does she is a mess.Right now she is by her self..don't get this doe at all the other doe's 's stuck and didn't breed back but her she does not wait for three weeks for rebreeding, she just seems to not stop being in heat, strange

I wasa thinking the same about the hermodyphite (sp?) too, but then from the description thought it wa smore cyctic. Hmmmmm as for culling, thats probably the unfortunate choice here. As mentioned lutlayse is available only from the vet. Good luck, hope you figure out something.

Might I suggest summer sausage? Would keep from passing this problem on to some other unsuspecting goat newbie......
-- Tana Mc (mcfarm@totelcsi.net), January 14, 2002.
I realized when I read Tana's last post that I carry an assumption in my mind that others may not. To me, when I say cull, that means sold for meat, or processed for meat by us. In no case should one ever sell a defective goat. For one thing this goat is miserable. It would be inhumane to keep her alive and not solve her problem.

ditto what Dianne said

Pastor Hughes, can you tell me more about your herbal blend? (like everything
) thank you
-- westbrook (westbrook_farms@yahoo.com), January 14, 2002.
Well.... it is not tumors, bladder or kidneys. SO if this works, I will be VERY impressed and will be adding it to my vet kit. Good Luck Tana Mc

Well it is 2:20 pm,and this doe is very calm even the buck does not smell the discharge that was bothering him and making him want to mount her she is laying and eating and not bothering the other goats at all.very nice no discharge at all she is now not even raw back there.no sign of any kind of heat all gone.she is sweet acting again not high strung like she has been.these herbs do not make them druged it just works on bladder, kidneies this is also good for horses, and I guess any animal.you ask how I mixed them.like I said 1 teaspoon parsley, and 1 teaspoon uva ursi, and peparica about 1/4 tea of this pepper.............cyst,tumor,kidney proublems,I started using this on my self years ago used to have things like that wrong then about 1990 I got real sick, got up to preach then back to bed,my brother came to visit me talked to me about herbs,I thought I don't need herbs but he talked me into getting some after about 3 days i stop I felt worse then when I started.I told my brother he he talked to the person who sales them and they said tell her don't stop this is when the poisons are being flushed out soon it will finish and then feel good so I started back and sure enough that is how it worked. So I started studing up on herbs found out enough that I started mixing them for my self and after that frist 8 years i was bed ridden, this knocked that all off .went to dr.he said there is nothing now wrong with you.so now I go at a run all the time ,I am 61 and out work much younger lol.I hope this answered the question you ask me thanks .
