What is a nice form-fitting case for M6 + 35mm Lux?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hello!

Just ordered an M6 TTL with 35mm Summilux, now to protect my little investment, what would make a nice fairly form-fitting case for it? I have seen the Leica EverReady, but don't know if this is a good choice.

I kind of deliberated over a chrome or black 35mm lens to go along with the chrome M6, so finally decided on the chrome combination. Any opinions on this?

Thanks for your input...hope this Leica will be with me serving for a lifetime!

Sorry, upon further exploring this board found a lengthy thread on this:

Anyway, I am looking for something that is weather resistant and fairly cushioning (but not too much). Speed of quick-drawing the Leica isn't that important though, but is nice. Thanks.

The Op/Tech neoprene Rangfinder Case works for me, I recommend it.

James, I hope you don't find this too bitchy but I can only repeat what I said elsewhere in this forum yesterday, which, too was a repeat for about the seventh time (i.e. please look at all the postings under Accessories, Ms, Miscellaneous) before asking for such advice. Thanks.

I recommend (and always use) Leica's original never-ready case -- but only the bottom half. The top half is disposable. The whole thing (M6 TTL in the half-case) is on Leica's best strap (IMO) "Neoprene strap". All of this is then carried (when I'm out on my mountain bike) with or without one lens attached and one or two alongside) in my favourite bag which is Lowepro's Orion Mini Beltpack/Waistpack). Very good padding, sizability, zipper-lid-closure and waterproofness.

Found a used Asahi Pentax SLR case for 5 Euro (5 USD) the other day. A pair of scissors turned it into a snug M6 plus 35 lux housing with a special cut-out for the Sling. And you can easily take the upper half off, too. Cheers.

Hey Mike-

If everyone always found what they wanted in the eminently searchable archives then we would never have anything new to talk about, would we?

WOW! Check out the link above. Very nice! Just what I was looking for, I think I'll go for the Leica M Medium Snout model. $289, but it is a fine piece made in the US. Worth the wait. Thanks Jeff!

the voigtländer case for the bessa r with the bigger snout fits just fine and is really cheap. it is a good way to find out wether you like an everready case. if you are really up for it you could invest a few hundreds more later in a kameraleder or an original leica one.

i really like the V-sign on the front of it. the top snaps off, so you can use it as a have case.

Hey James- you should check out the cases offered by Luigi Crescenzi. His website is www.Leicatime.com. For anyone who doesn't know it, his site offers a lot a great info on all sorts of cameras and equipment. He sells fantastic half cases which are really beautiful works of art- two layers of hand-crafted Italian leather. I have one for my M3- it's a tough leather outside with a soft sueded glove leather lining. It has a small lump on the right side which acts as a sort of grip, which actually helps in handling. The case is similar to using the bottom half of a Leica never-ready case, also similar to the kameraleder cases linked to above. He sells these things on E-Bay under the Umana (where I got mine) they go for around $175 or so.

JAmes:

A CF27 ( or 37 can't recall) Nikon case for the FM series fits the M6 like a glove. You can usually find one in a used bin, tape over the words Nikon on the front and have a discret case.

Cheers

I have to second the Kameraleder case suggestion if you are looking for a beautifully crafted hand made case and can afford the $. I have one for my CLE and it is just wonderful. Say hello to George for me if you contact them.
