Do you celebrate it? What will you do?
-- Anonymous, January 25, 2002
We don't make a big whoop about it. I'll cook a soecial dinner, but that will be about it (the fact that C's birthday is right after V- day also comes into play).

The Smoker and I have yet to do V-Day together, so we haven't made a big deal out of it. Last year I came down on the 16th of February and he took me to dinner and to a Junior Brown concert. Which was a very nice romantic date, I have to admit. This year I'm going to Boston for President's Day weekend, so we'll probably just send each other e-cards.
With my college boyfriend, however, it was a much bigger deal since we were (usually) together. My sophomore year we dressed up and went to the local Barnes & Noble to eat gingerbread cookies and read silly books to each other. That was nice.
The most excruciating V-Day I had, in terms of being alone, was in Venice, during Carnival, with everyone in the city except me seemingly hooking up. On the one hand, it was Venice and awesome; on the other, I was rapidly transforming into a third wheel, and my then- boyfriend was an ocean and a couple countries away. (All day the girls in the group had been sighing to each other, "I want to have my honeymoon here.")
As an aside, I've always found those "Be Mine" hearts more fun to look at than to eat. Except the vaguely-banana-flavored yellow ones.

My husband and I will probably go out to dinner, and for gifts we will do the same thing we do for our anniversary - shop together and pick out one nice thing for "us." Usually something for the apartment (we've collected some nice prints this way) or something electronic. Last year we bought a papasan chair! (Is that how you spell papasan?)

I sort of think Valentine's Day is for suckers. I mean, I have always acknowledged it when I'm in a relationship, but it's a contrived holiday to make people spend money.
You know what's a good V-Day present? A letter and a mix tape. Oh, and flowers and candy. (Doesn't anybody give flowers anymore? I used to, all the time. I mean, DAMN. Flowers are the best.)

When The Smoker and I first got together, I made him an Intro-to-WG mix, promising to explain, once he'd listened to all of it, why there was weird techno and bad Mexican pop and The Cure on it. I still don't think he's listened to the whole thing.Anniversaries have typically been the bigger thing for me. My high school boyfriend bought me a dozen roses on our first anniversary. The Smoker once brought me a white rose at the airport -- sadly, it was July and his car doesn't have A/C, so the rose didn't really make it home.
I'm on RedEnvelope's mailing list. Their Valentine's Day ideas? Too funny.

I actually have a beau this year for V.D., but he's out of town so we won't be spending it together. But I did already get my present, hee-hee. I think that our Thursday night supper club group is going to meet that night, so that the singles and solos can lament and eat good food and get drunk together. And for the record? I hate those little candy hearts. Always have. They're just nast.

I don't have a date this year.. and I didn't have one last year. Or the year before that. Or the year before that. Shit. V-days have sucked hardcore for me.I'm not bitter about it, or at least I try not to be. I don't really think that flowers and candy would make me love someone, although it would be nice to get a little tiny flower from someone random on Valentine's Day, you know? Blah. I'm waffling over Valentine's Day for Christ's sake. I need to chill.

I have only had ONE Valentine's Day in my whole life where I had a boyfriend. So I know the plight of spending VDay alone. Trust.me.Last year I talked about it on Mike's page.
Flowers would be nice.

Back in the day it was apparently an excuse for Roman S&M.

Y'all, I have one request:Can we please not refer to the holiday as VD?
-- Anonymous, January 25, 2002
T, for you I will change my habit. I have always called it that, but will refrain on MATH+1. =)
-- Anonymous, January 25, 2002
bwah to the VD comment! I recall that being a no-no to call it elsewhere too. I think the old Squishy forum :)as for Valentine's Day ...I don't usually give it much thought. last year I did get chocolates and a dvd from mom though. it was sweet of her to make it better so I don't totally mope. I've never ever, ever had a boyfriend during v-day - unless you count the net one I had in 97, but he did nothing for me! I don't even remember the damn day.
...not that I'm bitter or anything. I reallly thought this year would be the year cause of the whole semi-relationship starting in December, but it sooo ended on new years technically. I'm still sad about that.

The Vagina Monologues reclaimed Valentine's Day along with the word cunt. It will forever be Vagina Day in my heart now.Go Vaginas!

Valentine's is always special in my house because the Valentine's Fairy comes to visit. And, like she does with the Easter Bunny, ever since I've left home my mother has mailed the Valentine's Fairy's gifts to me. This year I got candy, a Blockbuster gift card, Valentine's Cards (that I have no one to sent to besides my family- I sent one right back to my mom, even), and a great Jackie O biography video including killer wedding video.Which I will watch again on Valentine's Day, alone. But I'm down with that.

Happy Valentines Day!I'm off to California for a long weekend by the sea.
(But someone tell us stories of people getting tacky flowers...)
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
No tacky flowers, but I did get up this morning to make my boyfriend little heart-shaped chocolate chip pancakes and coffee.Oh yeah -- and I found Crocodile Hunter Valentines which I hide all over this apartment. They were pretty damn funny.
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
Because I suck I did nothing more than wish my SO a Happy Valentine's Day so far.But....he woke me up this morning with a warm, fragrant bubble bath and a bathroom full of candles. I thought that was pretty sweet.

nothing says love more than 1st season of Buffy on DVD
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
I think I'm giving the Partner the Detroit Rock City dvd (purely unselfish gift as he loved the movie and I really can't tolerate Kiss) and jumper cables if I can get to the store today.Nothing says lovin' like emergency auto supplies.

People, Al got me a heart-shaped pizza!! She even delivered it herself. Nothing shows your love like knowing what your sweetie likes.A heart-shaped pizza!!! Yea!!

I started dating the Boy two weeks ago and it's so new into the relationship that I didn't know what we should do.. and he's been feeling bad all week so we decided to call off Valentine's Day...And then I came home from school today.
I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful the Boy is. There are rose petals on my floor from my door to my coffee table, upon which sits a bouquet of wildflowers in an iced tea bottle (the kind I have sitting around my apartment 'cos they're pretty, go AriZona) and two girlie comic books (the Boy is really into comic books and so he got me Action Girl and Ghost World) and also petals from my door to my bathroom where, in the child's alphabet mat that is my floor, he spelled out "I love you".
I am almost going to go cry, this is so amazing. I have never had anybody do anything for me for Valentine's Day, except for my parents sending me cards or whatever, and this just..
Wow. That's all I have. Wow.
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
Yay, Emily! I was worried about you in the back of my little pineapple heart, hoping you had a great Valentine's Day. Yay for the Boy!
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
yeaaah I ditto the woooow Emily...damn yo! that is quite spectacular!I only get cards on valentine's day, too. I got cards and money from the grandparents this year; nothing more. I was supposed to get Godiva till I swore off chocolate starting this week - no really!! and plus, mom was grumpy and therefore didn't get me any :(
...of course, I could've had a better day if I invited this certain boy over who said he'd do whatever I wanted ....that was very tempting. I might get him over here on saturday; possibly....feeeeh
-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002
Oh pineapple! And Amber! Much love and thanks. The Boy was actually surprised that I thought it was as wonderful as I did, but wow. Nobody's ever done anything even close to that for me before.
And last night we went to see the Vagina Monologues, so I now have a "Vagina Friendly" button I'm wearing everywhere. And last night I stayed at his place and we watched "Wet Hot American Summer" which you all need to see because it's awesome and we slept crazy late and I didn't leave the bed until 4pm! Whee! (No, not like THAT, we were just lying around and smootching and talking. Deeeeelightful. Groove is in the heart.)
