Mom had to put her cow down. (Pets)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
My mom's mpet cow (a commercial dairy farm rescue) had to be put down last week due to spreading eye cancer. She was a beloved family member and will be sorely missed. Poor mother is distraught - Blondie was, for all intents and purposes - a one ton dog. If you all want to check out the memorial edition of Blondie's One Cow Sanctuary website, here's the cut and paste:http://www.vegansplendor.com/blondiecow.htm
Feel free to send mum a card if you feel so moved. Don't matter if you're a stranger or not, lots of people know Blondie through the site that never met either of them. She could use the support.

There is a lot of pain when you loose a pet, when my first cow die of some liver disease,(Im not sure, I was a child then) I missed her a lot, mainly in the morning, she used to "call" us before milking, and for the longest time after her dead we continued hearing her call, my father used to say, that this was happening, because she was still alive in our minds, and guess what she still is... Sorry for your lost.

Soni: awesome site!!! Tellin' it like it is! We have 2 holstein veal calves here at our sanctuary, rescued from a place just like Blondie's old home. My condolences to your mom and family. Hopefully mom will save another cow someday...Blondie would approve, I'm sure.

How tragic, so sorry. I know I'll have to face that with our house cow. How heartbreaking.....

The site is run by my youngest sister (the usually shaved-head, vegan animal rights militant of the family. She's pretty cool, aside from those cold stares when she sees me eating cheese!).WARNING - FAMILY BUSINESS PLUG! I believe the site also links to,or from, her hand made vegan chocolates that she sells. Her company is called Vegan Splendor. She gets her chocolate from the only N.American maufacterer who has machines dedicated to making vegan chocolate. If anyone's interested, either vegan or allergic to milk, check her out. She uses non-refined sugars (as the refined sort are refined through bone ash) and takes other similar vegan precautions. The peanut butter cups are to die for!
