I never thought I'd defend Ted Kennedy, but I doubt if he meant to use the word "individualism" in the sense that his attackers imply. If you've listened to Kennedy speak extemporaneously in public, he sometimes stumbles. (Almost as much as Bush does.[g])

In the context of what he said, I think he was referring to those who deliberately thumb their nose at the greater good and pursue purely selfish and corporately destructive individual behavior.

Now, you can disagree with that -- I certainly think there's room to argue there myself -- but I doubt if Ted Kennedy really opposes the rights of the individual, not being a strong support of Gay Rights (just to name one example).

I don't think it was a typical adhoc, alcoholic Kennedyism. It was scripted by his handlers. It was read into the CR.

No doubt ne was trying to make the point that the Patriot's Super Bowl victory was an fine example of teamwork. I have no problem with that. He just needs new speechwriters.

Sometimes stumbles? New speechwriters? You two are too kind. Will admit the guy's been for some time a sotted mannequin of the DNC but check the bold in the original post. What entire country is banding together and facing down individualism? Mao's dead. Pol Pot is dead and Mr Kim is on the short list. It is what it is fellas---a rare unguarded glimpse. Write him off if you wish but don't write off the sentiment.
