Hellow i have a old fanning mill. I use shelled corn in my corn stoves for heat. The corn i use is from a corn crib that i shell with a corn sheller. I still get a little cob in the corn. Do you know of a screen for corn that can be used in this fanning mill? I would like to get a old seed corn cleaner that a seed company does not use any more. Any ideas on this? Thanks

If you do not shell the corn by hand you need to install a fan in the sheller or fix the one that is already there. Even hand crank shellers have a fan but most people don't use them. The fan on a pto sheller blows the shucks and the small pieces of cob out the chute together. If it gets plugged or malfunctions lots of cob will be in the corn. Another thing is, don't try to shell too high moisture corn. The more moisture the more cob will be in the corn. If your sheller does not have a fan try hooking up an old furnace blower and winnow the corn in front of it. Remember the more times you handle the corn the more chances to crack it and too many cracks in a corn stove is just as bad as too much cob. Good Luck

As to the fanning mill, you should not have any trouble findng soybean screens, that should work out to about the same size for your needs. Mostly you will want the fan part of it to blow out the light stuff.
