My recently acquired 75mm S'Lux is FS @ $1150

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi All:

My recently acquired 75mm Summilux is for sale... It's big, blocks the viewfinder and doesn't do much for me that my 90APO won't and I don't like it and I absolutely DO NOT need another piece of glass sitting idle in the camera cabinet!

So, here are the details:

If this lens were a Nikon I would rate it EXC. But it's a Leica, so I have to rate UGLY (Just kidding!) The glass is in EXC+++ condition, with no marks at all. But the outer barrel shows a lot of use -- not hard use, but use. There is brassing on the focus ring and lenshood rim, but no dents or dings. The aperture and focus operate silky smooth. There is not any trace of oil on the blades. There is no fogging, but a few very minor dust specs can be seen if you perform the flashlight test -- I know somebody will ask, so call it less than 12 specs of dust. Also, the focus ring has a little play in it, but focus is not affected, just a little play in the ring. $1150 plus FedEx 2-day insured shipping to your door. I can get some digital snaps if needed.

Cheers,

Willing to accept photos of pretty women in trade? (Sorry, they're not nekkid.)

Willing to accept photos of pretty women in trade?

Now if that read:

I would probably bite.

Bite what?

Mike, I've noticed a bluish cast in a lot of your snaps - what film do you use? Not that I'm the Kalibration Kat, of course. I get quite a heavy magenta from E100, naturally.

Bite what?

Hint: I'm in the 35/75 combo camp.

Mike:

IMO, when they're as beautiful as the women you shoot, they don't need to be... the mystery coupled with my imagination is more better ;-).

I am reminded of a philosophical waxing by Mr. T... He claimed he only dated ugly women -- He felt an ugly women always got prettier as she undressed!

BTW, what color underwear was she wearing? ;-)

Rob, for the non-grainy color stuff, it's mostly E100S. The bluish cast you're seeing probably has more to do with monitor calibration (I've just come to accept that with the wide variety of monitor types and settings, my images won't look perfect on most of them). It's odd that you mention a magenta cast to E100S--I switched to the Kodak bacause I found it's color balance to be much more neutral than the magenta cast of Astia.

Jack, re "nekkid" you said, "IMO, when they're as beautiful as the women you shoot, they don't need to be... the mystery coupled with my imagination is more better ;-)."

Does that mean you're up for a trade? As for the undies, I'm pretty sure it was a white thong.

Mike:

How about we trade pictures of my 75 S'Lux for pictures of your ladies???

;-),

Given Mike's productivity, if Mike wants a 75 lux, Mike should just be GIVEN a 75 lux - if for no other reason then just to put one to good use. Now just got to figure out the details.

Jack,

The price of $1,150 seems a tad low, given that a new lens costs $2,200 and yours is "recently acquired." Have you had any inquiries?

Mike, I have an uncalibrated laptop screen, so I always go by the numbers in photoshop. Anyway, it was just an observation. E100 I usually get processed in India and I think local labs put a magenta/pinkish cast on it to make the subjects look fairer skinned. On the whole there's a huge variability in E100 processing - hardly surprising for a consumer process.
