Any thoughts on 50mm f2.8 elmar?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Found a cracking deal on new M6 in UK.Good price but it comes with the collapsible lens, not my favourite.I know its compact but how does the quality compare to the summicron, and of course its a stop slower.

Steve,I find the 2/50 a bit more sharper and showing more contrast. Especially when doing BW.
The 2.8 is a fine lens when you want a camera easily fitting in your pocket though. I used it for travelling quite a while. Still my personal preference is the 2/50.

Scan the archives under "Leica M" Older Messages by Category-- approximately one fourth of the way down the list, you will see: "How about the new version Elmar 50/2.8 collapsible?"

This ranks as my all time favorite lens. I've been posting photos taken with it for the last couple of months. So here's one more. Remember, it's not like Leica builds lousy consumer type lenses. Each lens is designed to be the best of its class. The Elmar is the Classic Leica Lens. Leitz M6 Classic, Elmar-M 50mm 1:2.8, B+w KR1.5 MCR, Fuji Sensia II 200.

On my screen, I keep seeing a message in very large print: Photo Not Available. Is it just my computer, or are you doing something wrong, Glenn?

Uh.. Glenn, the uploaded pics might be more viewable if you tried saving pics as jpeg instead of jfif in Photoshop.

I wondered about Mr. Travis sense of humor since he's previously posted several photos to show how much he enjoys the 50/2.8 Elmar which came up like this (a very secret love affair with the Elmar?). I'm not fully familiar with uploading to PhotoNet, but after reading the instructions there, I think he's just linking to a photo which he has marked as not for public viewing. Probably shows up just fine on his computer, but not visible to anyone else.
