how long do they bear? (fruit)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I was wanting to order some muscadine grape and blueberry plants and I have found a website of a nursery located in the south with varieties for our climate. (Tenn.) While reading the descriptions of these, they noted that the grapes bear 3-4 years and the blueberries 2 years. Does this sound right or am I really missing something? I would have thought that both of these fruits would bear for years. Thanks.

I'm sure they'd bear for decades. Some grapes even centuries. I suspect they're saying that's how long it will take from infancy before they START bearing.

Best wishes.

not sure on the grapes,, but the blueberry are like rasberries,, the cane will produce for 2 - 3 years,, then HAS to be cut,,so the patch needs thinning every year to keep new growth coming every year

Annie, I think they mean they bear IN three-four years, not bear FOR three-four years. These plants should bear for years and years.

Duh....I swear sometimes I think too straight forward when I read something!!! When I read "bears 2-3 years", I took it literally. Thanks y'all for not laughing and answering my question.

I think Jennifer is right.
