Canon FT - Can you replace a suspect meter coil easily?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread |
Canon Ft (QL) - definately not the battery, battery check mechanism still Ok, meter circuit switch also seems OK. I have the original manual which mentions nothing of a coil. Can anyone shed any light? It is in mint condition and I would hate to write it off.

Paul,The meter unit would have to be replaced with one from another FT. I've never tried on a Canon. If the battery check works the meter movement is probably OK. Perhaps the CdS sensor has gone bad. If the camera is good, I'd continue to use it without the meter. Can you describe symptoms in more detail?

I would go to ebay and buy a gosen (I dont know if thats the correct spelling) and I am taking photography course and they recomend using an external meter where yours is working or not, and thats better than throwing away a good camera.Lyle

If the battery check is ok, the actual meter is fine, the battery check is electrical through the meter, a likely suspect is a dirty switch, the stop down/meter lever or one of the metering switches if the meter doesn't meter light, apparently the CdS cells are very reliable
