Answers

No early predictions from me (because I am always so, so wrong) but from the review that I read yesterday, I think that there is still two tribes in the beginning. Their names are whatever the Tahitian words are for Fire and Water, I think. The review also said that from the 1st episode, it does not seem as if food, water and fire are really an issue. Apparently, even though they are not given these things in this season, they are so abundant that by the 2nd day, they are eating well and have fire. But, they start bitching at almost immediately.

Back to my early predictions comment, I actually have to say that I had a feeling about Ethan last year. But, that was only because I had read in my Jane Magazine that one of the writers knows Ethan's brother and, of course, he could not divulge how Ethan had done in Africa, but the little bit that he had to say made me think that Ethan had done quite well.

Is it absolutely necessary to have the same demographice make-up for every show cast? We can make our own cast by following these simple casting guidelines-

Need: 1 olderish male, 1 olderish female(bonus if she does a tyically 'male' job), one hot black man, one hot black woman, one very pretty young woman, and 11 anonymous good looking white folks ranging in age from 25-35.

Since the new cast follows this formula exactly, is it forewarning we are in for the same personality types and conflicts as in the first three shows? Sadly, I'm sure it does.

I thought the beef jerky guy from Season 2 looked ever so slightly multiracial, like maybe he had a grandparent who was Chinese or Japanese, but other than him, no. Also, there haven't been any Middle Eastern or South Asian or Pacific Islander folks on the show that I can recall. Because of course the only minority representation you need on a show like this is the occasional African American or two. Has there ever been a Latino/a cast member? I can't remember at this point, but I think not.

I stayed mostly away from the Africa series, but I sense I will be sucked back into Marquesas.

I think they should have held on to Peter. He was a fine, fine source of entertainment, with his holy talk, his wholey talk, and his Manson lamps.

That Peter guy was such a strange bird! I think that there is definitely an alliance already going on in that camp.

I also was intrigued by the in-fighting already going on in the camp with the over-the-top personality of Kathy, the real estate agent that was freaking out over starting the fire.

My favorites so far are Rob, the construction worker, just for his very frank opinions of the others and, I am a sucker for that damn accent! Rob's biggest detriment so far is his connection with Sarah for such obvious reasons.

I also liked the blonde Ethan, Gabriel...so cute in those glasses!

The island really is beautiful...I would think that the one tribe would be pissed that their water source is just a hole in the ground while the other tribe has an entire waterfall! For showering purposes alone, the waterfall is a definite bonus!

I HATE ROB!!! He thinks he is so much smarter than every1 else, when in reality he is a jerk who thinks he can control people. He was one of those kids that likes to be in charge but they dont really know what they were doing. He thought he was going to make it to the final 2. Um... ya right. People can see through him so easily. How about when he tried to get two of the girls against each other. THat was BULLony. He is an illeducated twit. He thinks he is so much better than women. He thinks he can control them. He also likes to threaten people. How about when he goes I wont forget this, even though it is a game. Rob thrives on power but the minute someone quastions that power he is lost. He is used to people listening to him because he is so big. Its not going to happen. Oh, there were hoots and hollers of glee when John got voted out last night, although I would have been just as pleased if it had been any member of his little cabal. Kathy was right that Paschal & Neleh needed a turmoil wake-up call. I just worried that she was pushing it a little heavily. Little did I know how arrogantly the Rotu 4 would behave at the immunity challenge. Way to axe yourselves in the feet, there, guys. Did anyone else notice that when the credits rolled, we saw that Zoe had voted for John, too? I wonder if Paschal & Neleh approached her about the new alliance, or if she just figured it out on her own. This is by far the most merged tribe I've seen on this show. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Oh. My. God.

What a great episode last night - I was so glad that Paschal and Neleh came to their senses. I can't stand any of the Rotu Alliance members and was certainly happy to see John, the biggest ass of them all get the boot. His sobbing final words just killed me:

"Mom, Dad, I love you guys more than anything in the world. I was really missing you guys the last few days, so I'm okay with being voted out. But I wish I could have done a little better. You won't be able to retire, Mom, I'm sorry. But I made the game, and I made the Jury, and I did really well, and I'm very proud of myself. Just be happy for me and don't be mad at me. I'm going to go eat really good food and I'm just going to chow down. My abs are incredible but I can't show you right now. Anyways, I'm going to go, I'm really hungry and I'm going to go eat really, really good food. I will talk to you guys later. Peace. Go Big Red."

Yeah, Tammy's definitely next if the underdog alliance holds. I don't think she realized it at Tribal Council, though. I wish we saw more of the talking and jockeying for votes/position on the walk from camp to Tribal Council in this show. I think lots of interesting stuff happens then, and they never show us a single frame of it.

By the way, did you all know that they do not walk to Tribal Council? Apparently, the shots of them walking is when they hike up to the nearby road and a truck picks them up for Tribal Council. The article I read said that the Tribal Council location is like 5 miles away.

Except I thought Colby or Elisabeth mentioned something in the Australia series about how long the walk was, and about how it really felt long when they voted off someone they liked but who had to go for strategic reasons. After the Immunity Challenge, I was like "This sucks. Sean's out there with his (figurative) life on the line, and he doesn't even get a shot to win immunity, since everyone else can vote him off." And I told my fellow co-worker that the two old people should form an alliance with the two non-Rotu people, but that I didn't think they could get a fifth.

So, so smart. I was so happy when Neleh said "I didn't come out here to finish sixth or seventh."

Does anyone else think it would have been totally different if they hadn't knocked Paschal out so early? That was just moronic.

Well, John summed it up pretty nicely when he said that he regarded Paschal & Neleh as two free passes. I think the Rotu 4 thought that the two of them really did want to finish 6th or 7th, and were happy to be used that way. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Even if their ultimate goal was to use Neleh & Paschal, John & his crew shouldn't have been so cavalier and arrogant in their axeing of them. It showed how little they cared for the old Rotu ways and how totally self-serving they were.

I'm a little freaked out by the position that Kathy is now in. She's tight with Vee and Sean, then, separately, she's tight with Paschal and Neleh. That makes her in a power position, at least until the next tribal council. And I think she wants Zoe gone, and I think she'll try to manipulate that into happening.

I thought it was interesting, but dumb, to vote Zoe off. Zoe's a nut and she played the game miserably after the merge, but I would have gotten rid of Robert. They had a perfect chance -- he had given up -- and now he may be a lot more energized from here on out.

I still think Tammy goes next week if she loses immunity, but she impressed me yesterday. She knew she had to win the challenge to stay in the game, she worked very hard at it, and she did so. She's dangerous, and part of the reason I'd have sent Robert packing is that it would leave Tammy totally isolated. Now they both can spend three more days pleading with Pascal and Neleh to switch sides again, even temporarily, and if Sean returns to his irritating ways that might be pretty convincing.

My speculation is that after discussing forming an alliance with Tammy and Robert, Sean sent Vee off to propose it to them, and whatever she did backfired so Tammy & Robert voted for Vee, to send a message, because undoubtedly they knew their votes were next to to worthless.

My predictions for next week: first choice Robert, second choice? Vee or Neleh. Tough call.

I don't think Sean and Vecepia ever seriously took their proposal for an alliance to Tammy and Rob, because T&R should have jumped at the chance. Both of them are highly competitive and want to win -- they would have absolutely nothing to lose in an alliance with Sean and V. I still don't know why Sean and V didn't do it, unless it was Sean's fondness for Paschal. Like they said, it would have guaranteed them a final four seat.

The only thing I can figure about Tammy and Rob voting for Vecepia is they felt bad for her on her birthday and wanted to send her home to be with her husband. I mean, she wasn't a very strong competitor in the musical shells game.

See, I think the Vee votes were a shot across the bow Paschal, Neleh and Kathy. It's a question Tammy and Robert asked two weeks ago: "Who do you want standing next to you when it comes down to the final four."

Voting for Vee is one last attempt to get Paschal and Neleh to go back to voting off the non-Roku tribe members. It would certainly be in their best interests to start at least thinking about that, since after next week -- if Robert goes -- Neleh and Paschal lose their power to influence the game. They could lose a 3-2 vote if Kathy sides with Sean and Vee.

I'm no Tammy fan, but I think she's right in her closing statement. If Robert gets voted off next week, I have no idea how the other five will make it through to the end. Who else does any work at all?

Kathy's still the key vote next week -- she gets to pick who's going to be in the final two. Either she aligns with Sean and votes out Neleh or vice-versa.

She's in great shape to finish third, but in terrible shape for making the final two unless she wins immunity. If I were her, I'd try and vote out Paschal first, then switch sides and join with Neleh to force a tiebreaker and vote out Vee (depending on how the tiebreaker's decided). I think her only chance is if the final three is somehow her, Neleh and either Sean or Vee, and I don't think she'll be able to make that happen.

I didn't see it but read the TWoP board right after it aired, so I have a sense of what happened.

I just don't like Vee. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something dishonest about her. She seems annoyed by the whole thing, so it's like, WHY are you here?

My dream final two would be Paschal and Sean. Sean's really grown on me.

And yes, "Oh my heck"? I understand that you're Mormon, Neleh, but cut it out. Say gosh like a normal person.
