Where can I buy cod liver oil cheap?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I posted awhile back about a cat with dandruff. The recommendation was cod liver oil. I've looked at pet stores. I also went to a few pet supply stores on line. The postage and handling is ridiculous! Does anyone have any ideas where I can buy some? I don't want the capsules, I need the liquid form.

Walmart sells it in liquid form. Most good pharmacies sell it also.

I think I'd go to a drugstore, buy the capsules, take one and stick a pin in it, and squirt the stuff on the cat food or down their throat, or whatever. Would that work?? I do that with vit. E sometimes.

Oh Bonnie, I've tried that! The coating on the capsules are thick! It's almost impossible! thanks for the advice though. I'll try Wal- Mart again. Any more suggestions? Say does anyone else remember having to take a spoon of cod liver oil every day in the old days??

YOU MIGHT TRY VEGETABLE COOKING OIL (CORN OIL). That is what the vet told me to put on my dogs food for dry skin.

I get cod liver oil in liquid form at the drugstore. Mostly Walgreens if you have one. It is about 6 dollars for a bottle of it. They make it in cherry and regular flavor. Hope you find it

By the way, it usually located with the vitamins and such by the pharmacy.

Regarding those capsules, a small scissors will nip the end off the capsule and allow you to squirt out the contents. I did this when I burned my stomach with the hot coffee that sprayed out of a cup as it was poured. By the way, pure vitamin E directly on a burn is super for healing and keeping the lesion soft and protected. I don't even have a scar and it was right down to the meat.

You might consider dissolving a mutlivitamin in your cats drinking water and get the same vitamin supplement effect and add an oil (corn, olive, etc.)on top of your cats food for the oil effect.

Yes, Ardie, I certainly remember all those tablespoons of cod liver or halibut liver oil. Got to actually liking it too. Still can take it that way. How about you?
