I'm back. I was in South Carolina yesterday. There are NO decent hotels in Columbia, and there is also no place to eat after 9 p.m. on a Sunday. Which sucked, as I arrived in town on Sunday at 9:30.

But this time in three months, I'll be in Hawaii. And married. But right now this second, the Hawaii thing is what I'm really looking forward to.

Teen gets jail time for shooting chimp

HILLSBORO, Mo. -- A teenager in Missouri has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for fatally shooting an escaped chimpanzee and has been ordered to take up letter writing.

A Jefferson County judge ordered 18-year-old Jason Coats to serve his time starting June 1, once school ends for the year.

The judge said he wanted to hand down a stiffer sentence, but could not because he was bound by the jury's recommendation. Some 300 people had written letters urging a longer jail term.

So Judge Gary Kramer improvised, ordering Coats to send written responses to the angry letter writers.

Suzy the chimpanzee and two other chimps escaped last April from a business that supplies them for parties and TV ads. Coats claimed they were violent, but other witnesses say the ape, Suzy, had been tranquilized.

A neighbor says Coats told him he "just got him a monkey."

The part about the monkey being shot didn't make me laugh so much, but the part where the kid said, "I just got me a monkey" is funny for myself.
