new M6 arrived today !

My new M6ttl arrived today!I think I made the right choice,0.58 chrome. One point though,I was prepared for hearing the shutter 'buzzing' during exposures from about 1/8 sec. but after the shutter closes you can hear another mechanism 'buzzing'.Leica UK say its normal and will go in time, but it sounds disconcerning. Anyone else have this on their new M?

Steve, sorry to answer you so rapidly but my "English" is too deficient to explain myself more! After one year owning mine, yes I have same curiosity too; don't worry and enjoy with it! Alain

Hi Steve ! I'm from Belgium and my english is not the best too but don't worry, this bizzzz is absolutely normal. All my M6 does it. Hope you will be as satisfied as I am with your M6.

Hi Steve, If you mean the slow speed gear train winding down, then yes I have this on my new black M6 TTL and on a 1958 M2. Its part of the charm of a Leica!

Yes, the clockwork slows down as it unwinds fully after exposure. The exposure timing happens during the part when the tension is high which makes for linear timing.

As everyone has already stated, the buzzing after the shutter has fired is normal. It is the slow speed escapement resetting itself. If it ever "goes away" then it is time for a CLA.

I hope you are happy with your new camera. My 1988 M6 is clicking along great without ever having been serviced, so you should enjoy years of joy from your camera.

Regarding the shutter sound, this is normal, but it is also something that many new camera owners are concerned about. Here is a thread from the archives that has a breakdown of those "extra" sounds you are hearing. My book say to be concerned if you DON'T hear them. Take a look at: from the archives

Good luck and welcome to the club! The noise is normal on such a fine mechanical instument!I doubt the M7 will have it!Electronic timing. Tell us what camera system you sacrificed to make this purchase! If you did'nt sell your other equipment, the M6,will soon have them gone....

Welcome! The M6 is just great, I got mine no too long ago (Jan.) and sacrificed a Canon 1N and a 28-70L zoom. Oh and a 540 EZ flash woohoo! What a monster! The Leica is superb.

I'm happy for you Steve welcome to the club. I've had my M6TTL for almost a year and couldn't be happier. My girl friend thinks I like it more than her. ;0) I so far have traded a F-100 and bunch of lenses and my first range finder a Mamiya 7 with two lenses. Good luck your hooked now! Scott

...unless, of course, you have an M7. 8^)

congratulations, steve. Remember to run it through the clothes washer a couple of times right now so you won't be worrying about that first scratch....
