Product Strategy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Service Level Management : One Thread

Hello,

If I was to take a look at all enterprise management software vendors, look at their products, the features, pick the products for my environment on that basis, and then deploy them into my infrastructure, would this allow me to assure service delivery?

The vendors make some very good claims about their products and it all sounds very straightforward, "solutions in a box"

Thank you,

Jeremy Oakley

HP can offer you "HP OpenView Integrated Service Assurance" basically it is all of the products you need to install in order to assure quality service delivery. As far as the website says, all you need to do is follow the instructions.

If you need to buy these products, go to www.openview.hp.com/products

If you would like to buy some OpenView Products, please contact me, I will be happy to supply at a very low cost. I am based in Munich, but can ship you the boxes.

Jeremy, >would this allow me to assure service delivery?

The answer to your question is "Absolutely not!" SLM is a set of processes, not products. The processes are supported or enabled by various forces (including people and tools).

Many, many companies have made the mistake of assuming that in order to enable any aspect of management, all that is required is to buy and install a set of tools. This has resulted in a lot of money being wasted and products turning into shelfware. There are a lot of good tools available to help with SLM, but they can only be part of the equation.

Contact me directly if you wish to discuss this in more detail.
