I have read that some have had success with the Novoflex adapter on the Canon D30. Stopped down metering was possible. However, reading the specs on the Canon D60 states its compatibility " Canon EF lenses (all) (due to max. aperture metering, stopped-down shooting not possible". Does this mean that it would not be possible to use the adapter on the D60 except at max aperature?

That is a possibility. The Elan 7/7E give faulty readings with the R lenses in stop-down metering and there's no simple fix like altering the ISO setting. Other EOS film bodies work fine, even the Rebel 2000. Canon might have changed circuitry for the D60, but since there aren't any yet available we'll have to wait and see. I've read that people have used the 1D with R lenses ok, and I use a D30.

I thought you just set the aperture on the camera to f/1.0 no matter what it really was set at on the lens? Didn't I see that on Steve Gandy's page someplace?

Is ELAN 7 same as EOS 30?

Is it a problem with R lens on EOS30? I am planning to get a EOS body for all my R-lens. My R-4 just went dead and would cost me $500 to fix it.

I believe the EOS 30 and Elan 7 are the same camera. For some reason on that body alone (and the 7 E of course)the meter will not work in stop-down mode, you must have a CPU in the lens. I saw somewhere on the web where someone made an "adaptor-adaptor" to circumvent this, by extracting the CPU and contact strip from a trashed EF lens and grafting it onto a lens adaptor. But what you're left with is a CPU assembly hanging under the lens by its ribbon cable. I suppose one could tape it to the underside of the camera, but it looked very unesthetic as it was. AFAIK using the EOS-R adaptor with all the other EOS bodies is no problem. I have personally tried them with EOS1, 1N, 1V, A2 (EOS 5 in Europe), and D30. On the 1 and 1n the "fine spot" meter doesn't read accurately; on the 1 just use evaluative or CW; on the 1N you can set a custom function to tie the spotmetering to the focus spots, and then all works well. In fairness I found the same to be true when using EF lenses on the 1n. For some reason the fine spot meter disagrees by quite a bit from the other meter patterns when metering a blank wall, and theoretically they should all agree--and do, when the spotmeter is linked to the AF spots.
