Simple question about L grip for M6 ttlgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
I am new to Leica. I am contemplating buying a L grip for my M6 ttl. Doec this have to be removed for every film change ?Thanks, stuart

It comes off with the base plate when changing films. So, it's of no additional bother, except to the extent that it complicates where to put the baseplate while loading the new film.

FWIW i have the grip on M6.It comes off as one unit with base for film loading.i like it but its not real needed.Extra grip yes. makes camera bulky...Its not expensive,by Leica standards..so add one. i think its good as makes tripod screw in center, should i use tripod.Doubtful.It protects the base.wonderful.Its a good talking point,is that a motor drive?

The fact that the grip comes off with the base plate is a design compromise that I can't appreciate fully. Sure it's great you don't have to remove it every time you change a roll, but the design looks somewhat awkward. I expected it to go completely across the bottom plate ala the motor drive for a nice streamlined look. But is falls short and looks as if something is missing.Well it does do the job, and when out in the field, having to change film, I have appreciated the convenience of the design, which i guess is more important.

I use the Rapidgrip, which I like better than the L grip. I have big hands and like that it has more volume. It also has a handy space in the grip for extra batteries. See www.rapidwinder.com

when i first added the l-grip to my m, i thought it was perfect, but after a while i took it off and sold it. i think it is not really necessary.

I have one and for the most part I like it.I tend to agree, though....I am not sure that it is absolutely necessary. I would probably consider it essential if I did not use a neck strap, as I would fear for dropping the camera.
There is another nifty little accesory I saw on the web. It was like a small "strap" thingy that was fitted for just two finders to pass through and attached to the strap lug. Looked kinda cool as it permitted you to hand hold the camera without fear of dropping it and didn't interfere with controls.
Can't remember what it was called, but I think it was a custom deal made by someone in Germany. Anyone remember what this was?

That was supposed to be "fingers to pass through" not "finders".I love coffee.

> Can't remember what it was called, but I think it was a custom deal > made by someone in Germany. Anyone remember what this was? It's called a SLING. Lutz Konermann of Switzerland makes it. His web site is at http://www.konermann.net/sling.more.html

The Konermann "sling" is more elegant and more useful than the L grip. Make sure to properly measure your finger diameter before ordering: tight is better than loose in this case.Other useful gizmos on that site as well...
