book "Keeping Food Fresh"greenspun.com : LUSENET : barter board : One Thread |
I have 4 brand new copies of the book "Keeping Food Fresh- Old World Techniques and Recipes" which is published by Chelsea Green Publishing Co. List price is $16.95. Softcover. 197 pages.Excerpts from the back cover-
"here is a book - celebrating traditional but little known French techniques for storing and preserving fresh edibles in ways that maximize flavor and nutrition.." These methods do not require freezing or canning. Interesting read even if you don't intend to do any food preservation. My favorite recipe was one for preserving cherry tomatoes in olive oil, something I had never seen or heard of doing before.
The only thing that I am particularly looking for is a drip-free honey dispenser, the kind which drops honey out of the bottom when the lever is pressed. This is a two piece dispenser, which sits in a glass holder. I do not mind a used one if someone finds one at a garage sale, but I do want glass, not plastic. If anyone finds one please let me know.

Hi Elizabeth,Lehman's sell this item in their catalog, for $13.95. They also have a website at www.Lehmans.com. The description says that both the container and holder are made of glass.

Marci and Terri,Thanks for the tip. I already found the one at Lehman's, but to get it I would have to (gasp!) BUY it, lol. I want the one that is sitting on the top shelf way in the back of the cupboard in someone's kitchen, or the one that someone finds at a garage sale. I haven't been home long enough lately to go to any garage sales myself, but I am sure a lot of our readers have been.
Marci, if I do have to break down and buy one from Lehman's I will certainly use your link now that I know about it, but I also know that they appear quite frequently on ebay for around $8-9.

Do you still have the books for trade? I don't have honey dispenser, but if you are willing to trade for something else, I would be interested. If you have something in mind, let me know - I have essential and fragance oils, paperback books, homeschool software (CDROM), some soapmaking supplies and molds, flower and vegetable seed, I have the Rodale book "Banish your Belly, Butt and Thighs, if you think of something else, holler and I will search the house for it. Thanks Linda
