Please do not distribute multiflora rose. The birds spread the seeds and unchecked for a few years it takes over pastures and rural land and is very hard to get rid of.

Yep, Mitch is right. Multiflora rose is one of those introduced plants that has turned invasive. Land owners in this county are encouraged to destroy all plants on their property and that is usually a several year process.

No one will have to narc on you when, in just a few sort years, these invasive plants start to spread and cause havoc. And it won't take a rocket scientist to see that a particular place is the point of origin for the invasion. I feel that being informed on the status of some of these introduced plants can be helpful when one is making a responsible decision on trading them.

Stan, here's a link to the Michigan Invasive Plant Council. You may also be interested in Michigan State University's Purple Loosestrife Project. You can do whatever you want but other people may not be aware of the implications of trading these plants. That's why I feel it is important to be INFORMED and RESPONSIBLE.

thanks Bren,,, nothing I didnt already know,,I work pretty close with MSU on alot of things. I am also one of the few people in this state that can LEGALLY grow and raise purple loostrife. AND I CAN sell it. Im working with county exten on finding insects or fungi that attack and weaken it. So, again,, thanks,, and I would still like some muiltfora,, (since it isnt on MY states list)

It is really hilarious that anyone would WANT multiflora roses. Although they smell great, within a few years you will question your own sanity. They can grow as big as a house (a large house!) and are virtually impenetrable. Your neighbors will LOVE you for introducing these plants if there aren't any in your area yet!!!! There are woods around here where you cannot even walk because of these things. The deer really like to hide in them though.

stan, one good use for the multiflora is goat feed, my goats love it and I keep it in check around here by whacking on it to feed them..also once was told that it is good as protection for young hardwood trees untill they get out of deer reach...have cussed out the birds that spread this stuff many a time, there really isn't any way to stop its spread if let go to seed...but if you really want some, check and see if the loosestrife is restricted in WV(and what is it GOOD for anyway??)

since IM in the deep freeze here,,Im betting that it wont take over,, and the deer will decimate it pretty quick,, loostrife was brought over from europe, because it make great honey,, and bees love it,,problem is,, it takes over wetlands,, FAST,, I know its restriced in ALL 50 states,,, but Ill trade some beeswax candles for some. I need something that will last a few months anyways,, and if it "pisses" off the neihbors,, no sweat
