A Ricoh camera cost in dollars about 350.Many landscape photographers use it as a compact such as Charlie Williams to name one.If they think it is good enought fot their type of detailed work, got to be a excellent backup fot us.The 28mm lenses is avialible in a LEICA FIT FOR serious money.

AHHH---you wrote "GRLS" but it is GR1S. Devils and details.thanks, Charles

Besides the 28mm, Ricoh also makes a 21mm version. It has an aespheric lens and the point and shoot costs over $500.

Oops
-- Allen Herbert (allen1@btinternet.com), March 23, 2002.
I am getting over $500 for the 28mm and over $1000 (!) for the 21mm version, B&H prices.

Question for anyone who owns one--does it have the typical AF lag between pressing shutter button and firing photo? Such as the Minilux and so many others have???Thanks.
-- Charles (c.mason@uaf.edu), March 23, 2002.
yes.
-- Phil Stiles (Stiles@metrocast.net), March 23, 2002.
I like the Hexar (AF) far better. Complete control, including film speed setting and flash (and the ability to use any flash), no shutter lag if you prefocus, a lens that Leica fans should be happy with since it's based on an older Leica design.

i have an old Konica 35mmrfdr auto camera,45mmf1.9 lens, the auto no work but shutter and all the rest fuctional. Its really sharp and contrasty. Is this lens similar to some older Leica lens? The out of focus ares similar to a Summilux 35mm that i sold for that sort of double images...i hate it.Closed down vey sharp and contrasty. Purchase price in leather case, one ding,no meter or auto exposure, Canadian Dollars $50.oo or about US $32.00.

Sorry Jeff, liked your photo.Great exposure and well worth seeing. The rest of us talk about equipment,Jeff shoots photos!

you can also preset focus with the GR1 (it is called snap mode) so that it doesn't have the lag between depressing the button and firing a frame. I agree that the Hexar is probably a better camera... but is isn't nearly as small as the GR1, which is about the same size as a wallet or a casette tape box - it will easily fit in a shirt pocket. If you want a ture backup that can replace a M6 get the Hexar if you want something tiny to carry with you at all times the GR1 wins.
