The individual threads were black. So, it seems rubberization is done before weaving (?)

Naaww. Black-dyed silk threads - the rubber is coated onto ready-woven cloth (see front of shutter). The rubber covers the whole piece of cloth smoothly. If it were added to the threads before weaving you'd still be able to see the weaving pattern - the rubber wouldn't have filled in the tiny dimples between threads unless added later.

Andy,Thanks. Why would Leica put it on the "exposed" side of the curtain and not on the film side? It would seem that silk would be more sun resistant than rubber.

Silk is a wonderful choice for the shutter. What would happen if I replace my bedroom curtains with silk too?
