Any more "O" users?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Back in January, there was a thread regarding Leica O users. I was wondering if any others have tried the "O" and if there are any updates from those already using it? I would love to hear your new or continuing experiences. Best regards, Daniel Kremens

I bought one not long ago, but as yet haven't had an opportunity to try it for real. I just got me an ABLON on eBay, so NO MORE excuses not to do it !

I've thought about what fun this camera would be, and am interested in seeing some results if someone would post a few. Recent price reductions make it more viable of a toy to have some "old fashioned" fun with.

I bought one maybe 3 months ago............ darn itch !

Your pics will be less than perfect. as framing, focussing and exposure is by guess work., no fine scientific instruments to aid.

Be prepared to ruin one or two per roll just because of faulty capping techique !

Be prepared to ruin another because you have changed the shutter speed and forgot to fully wind the balance before triggering.

Be preapred to ruin 32 out of 36 because you have loaded it wrongly !

If you really are bad at mentally judging distances and must have sharp shots, you may have to resort to counting steps, using a measuring tape or procure the no longer made leitz rangefinder.

Framing is hit and miss and you may decapitate a few family members and friends. If you can't inprove then you need to add a 50 mm external viewfinder !

It really makes you appreciate the so modern and accurate M6 !!!!

If the shots are not crucial ie you can afford a few ruined ones and you are in a nostalgic mood that day........it is fun.

Most people won't understand and would say "thats a hard to use camera".

My mother said "throw it away !"

Well, that doesn't sound anything like fun what-so-ever ! Thanks, you just saved me $1,200. Now I'm that much closer to that "easy as pie" to use M24/2.8 ASPH I've been lusting after.

Thanks, --Marc

But Marc, think of the sense of achievement if / when you do strike gold!

although i would buy it if i had the cash lying around, i still enjoy using my retina 1 for misframed, wrongly exposed and out of focus pictures.

I thought Bill (aka Wilhelm, aka Mitch) Mitchell had the best idea for the 'O' ... Give us that lovely little lens in an M or LTM mount.

I got the first one sold in Portland, OR many months ago. I've shot a couple of rolls of film...but the time elapsed since using it has probably thrown me way down the learning curve. It's a lession in humility, but I like my toy and have no regre
