Has anyone actually used this combination? I am more concerned about the combo's performance at infinity. I don't use anything longer than a 100mm too often so the 2x APO extender seems like a good alternative for those rare occasions. I will use it on a tripod so the speed and dim finder won't be such an issue. While traveling I would much rather carry an extender than a big 180mm if all possible. Thanks in advance.

Ray, I use this combo from close-up to infinity. When using this combo on a tripod and stopping down one or two stops you'll have reserves of Leica quality. Good luck.

I use the 2xAPO on the 90/2.8 with great results so I can only imagine the results with the 100APO would be excellent.

By all accounts I have read this is still an outstanding combination even at full aperture (effectively 200mm @ f5.6). It is a bit slow for a 200mm though, but if you are on a tripod already....No experience myself though.

You should also know the 2x extender gives you a 200mm true Macro with a reproduction ratio of 1:1 without the need of the elpro. This to some is the best feature as normally the lens has a reproduction ratio of 1:2.

Thanks for the helpful comments. I went to dealer to look over the 2x APO-extender and saw that the 80-200mm f/4 zoom is only two hundred dollars more. I might as well go for the zoom since I am pretty sure it is a high performing lens and compact as well.
