I have been here for a long time. I find it a very nice group of informed people. I like the photo's posted here.

The question is, the subject matter. Is it too narrow?. I have used M's for 42 years. I have taken some great scenics. What we have is some great posts of street photo's and models [I don't care what the critics say, I think Dixon does a great job].

We get nothing else. We need some variety. I can't do it; I am in the process of organizing 42 y of photo's. Others must be using these cameras for something else.

I would like to see them; and an explanation of the shoot. Variety, Variety. I have a beauty that I just printed; unfortunately the person who bought it got all of the rights; and hey, I don't do this for a living. I am engulfed in the 48 Senate Bills dealing with select agents. I will be there for some time. You know; the Patriot Act and Bioterr. stuff. And I wanted to slow down and do photography.

Since we're on a roll of non-street images here, how about a west coast sunset, or some west coast rocks, or some stairs, or an old California Mission?

(OK, the stairs are close to a street, but it's hidden. ;-)

I was in a rush to get to the darkroom earlier and didn't pay attention to that part. Here are the Cliff Notes for the above images:

The fireworks shot was done about 9 p.m. (I'd been drinking constantly since 3) down by the riverfront in Nashville. M3 and 50 Summilux at about f4 and 1/25 (handheld) on Ektachrome 1600.

Promo card was shot in his studio in an old factory bldg (huge bank of windows). Various reflectors were involved. The fish were suspended from the ceiling with fishing line (ironic, huh?) which was PhotoShopped out. Spent about an hour setting up and fifteen minutes shooting. We had shot a number of serious (prententious) poses which didn't reflect his personality at all. I made some wisecrack and fired the shutter to get the shot I wanted. Done with a Pentax 645 and 55/2.8 on Delta 400.

Candid shots were done with M3 and a 50 (Summilux or DR-Summicron) on Delta 3200 and/or HP5+. Taken at a hunting lodge in Nowhere, Illinois.

Concert shot was with M3 and 135/2.8 Elmarit at about f2.8 and 1/50 (I remember I was testing at how low a shutter speed I could handhold the 135) on EPJ (EI 1000, 2-stop push). It was a performance at the club 3rd & Lindsley.
