The picture posting debate continues - I need a scanner - any suggestions?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
I no longer have access to a scanner and would appreciate suggestions for a suitable model so I may be able to post some photos etc.It needs to be basic, user friendly and quick - I only need to scan 10x8 prints and A4 paperwork to a reasonable resolution. Obviously a model available in the UK and around £100 - £150.
Thanks!

I can only agree with Travis, being on the verge to order that exact model.

I use an epson 1250 photo, which is ok for prints, but does work not so well with slides / negatives. If you only like to scan prints, this might be a low-cost choice, otherwise I would like to tend to the 1650 due to the better resolution.
If you don't mind the poor quality of my pictures, all those shown here are scanned with the 1250 photo. Unfortunatelz I was not able to adjust the contrast for the latest BW pictures in the limited amount of time I had, but this is possible, so please don't flame me for this. Maybe later when I don't have to travel and work so much.

I agree 100% with Travis. I own the 1650 and you've seen my scans. Not bad for the price. But I would've preferred the 2450, as the 1650 does have trouble scanning at times and doesn't have an on/off switch. it just goes into sleep mode which is a little noisy and a light stays on. To turn it off, you need to pull the plug out. But for standard web use it is pretty good, especially considering the cost. To print off, you'll need to spend more.Godd luck. Look forward to seeing your work.

I saw a review in April 2002 Shutterbug the Pacific Image PF1800 Silver and bought one for under $300 US. First scans are quite good for the money and a lot of useful software including Photoshop LE 5.0 and Silverfast SE came in the deal. Purchased for the Scanner Outlet in california 909-679-9389. Came in a couple of days after ordering. This is a slide and film strip scanner, not a photo scanner.

after having had a epson 1200 for a few years i am eagerly awaiting my new 2450 on tuesday. probably for print scans it is a overkill, but the chance to scan most available negative sizes at a decent level makes it very useful item. if that is too much for you go for the 1650. it is not only the resolution, but a slow scanner is most enerving. forget all the sub 100 consumer stuff.
