Flatbed scanner recommendationsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
I just received many old pics of 40-50 years old and wish to scan, catalog these into digital files. I don't have the negatives, only pics. I need a flatbed scanner which would deliver excellent quality. A transparent adapter is not necessary as I have a dedicated film scanner. Recommendations? ThanksPrefer firewire or SCSI

Can't really go wrong with an Epson 2450. It will do your color prints beautifully as well as work on negatives.Godfrey

I've found the HP scanjet 5470c to be very good and reasonable priced considering it's 2400dpi. It's also got a hand held "light table" thingy for scanning negs & slides.

Take a good at the Epson Perfction 2450 (Medium Format) beautifully scan Silver Fast software.

I would also recommend the Epson 2450 with one caveat -- they still have not released Mac OS X drivers (and they want $3.99 for them when they finally do).

Ditto on the 2450 - I have one and love it. It also does a very decent job scanning medium format negs, should you need that to supplement your existing film scanner.

Due to the over whelming vote for the Epson 2450, I have just placed my order. I presently use a Nikon LS4000 with Silverfast Ai/IT8 calibration for my 35 mm scans and was presently surprised to see that the Epson comes bundled with the Silverfast SE.Thanks Don

I've read several great reviews of the 2450 scanner. But it is USB only correct? My old Power Mac is SCSI.What is a good or comparible SCSI scanner? Anyone?
Thanks

it's a great scanner, the Epson 2450... and at the price, amazing! with it able to scan 4x5 to 35mm. I figured I'd need either the Nikon or Minolta medium format to 35 scanners, now I'm not sure...

Don, be sure to keep us updated on your experience with the scanner. I, too, am getting the itch to pick up one of these scanners -- it just may possess me to start using the Rollei more...
