According to the Freeman, the bus accident doesn't seem like something for which we can blame Doan, so I won't bug Grehl about it.

Here's an interesting note: Marian Umhay came up to me and complimented my letter to editor. I asked her if she truley agreed with its content and she said yes, but didn't like the 3 candidates running in a block on one ticket "makes it too political", she said. I responded with didn't she think Ostrander is running on coat tail of Doan? Isn't this all political? Interesting...she isn't a Doan supporter? Boy, not what I expected.

Host homes going well...people responding.

Great to see your well-written letter made it in the Sunday Freeman. Nice timing as it is the edition that gets read by the most people.

People run on a ticket simply because of the economy of costs. I wish it didn't have to be done that way so I didn't have to get so busy at this time of the year. :-)

Big signs have arrived and they look good. I took the liberty of making the first names slightly smaller as I did get some criticism on the small lettering of the yard signs.

We have discreet permission to solicit at the Trading Post in Shokan in the parking lot. NOT directly in front of any establishment. Keep this under your hat. Vince Bruck has also taken some of the pamphlets and discreetly put them on dislplay in the store.

Jim...I don't know how many BIG signs you have...but we should see if Dimitri (Rachel's Dad) Hernandez will put one up at their house across the street from the Wittenberg store. Theres a big Doan sign there that almost looks like it's on his property now.

Looks as if the League of Women Voters Debate is scheduled for Monday May 6th. The BOE Meeting previously scheduled for May 6th has been moved to May 13. So brush up on your debating skills!

Cinnamon and I visited the softball field today at about 5pm. The rain had let up for a while, so we could walk around without getting soaked. As I suspected, water was flowing steadily from the infield drain onto the corner of the soccer field, which was like a big puddle. I also measured the distance from home plate the the soccer field bleachers: 100', and they're just off the left field foul line. Indeed, you can easily see that foul balls will be hit onto the soccer field, so the players are also in danger. This sucks so bad !!! It's a typical case of how choosing the cheap way out can end up costing more, way more. I'm getting a letter to the ed ready on this issue.......

Curry - Doan always claims that the soccer field simply needs dressing to avoid the runoff, can this possibly be true? Or is it a huge drainage/diversion problem? (Just trying to cover all the bases. :-0

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

The soccer field needs to be top dressed, but this is an entirely seperate problem. The drain pipe releases water that flows across the corner or the soccer field, anyone can observe this the same way I did yesterday: go up there after it's been raining a while and take a look. The problem is relatively easy to solve: dig a ditch and extend the drain through, across the driveway to existing drainage. The foul ball problem, however is not that easy to solve, and probably will require one of those tall nets hung from telephone poles like you see at golf driving ranges. How much will these repairs cost? And why wasn't it done right the first time, i.e. site the diamond at the other side of the field? Eli is on the soccer team, and I'm really outraged at this.

I just RSVP'd to the League of Women Voters "Meet the Candidates" night on MAy 6th. I spoke to Janet Briggs at the Woodstock Elementary school....and she told me the Board Meeting scheduled for the 6th was moved to the 13th, and now has been cancelled!! This means no Board meeting between now and the election! Very interesting.

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

I also Rsvp'd to League of Women Voters. School Board meeting on May 8th.

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

OK...that makes more sense. Thanks Marino.

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

I understand that the Bioasrd meeting is now the Wednesday the 8th of May and the Candidates night is the Monday 6th. is this correct? Tobe

After seing Doan lie again on Sam's Time of channel 23 and claim Marino has cost the district $40,000 (!) in legal fees and that marino has probably sued the district more than any trustee in it's history, I'm ready to write the letter about Doan the deceiver and lier...most prolific in Board history? No doubt.

I've just added this lie to the list: Deceived district on on transpoprtation costs Memogate Faniff tapes Deceived district on softball field costs Lied about Marino legal fees

please add whatI've missed. Tobe PS Jim...don't worry...I'll save it 'till the last week of the campaign.

some one remarked that two of the email addresses on Laurel's list for newspapers are n/g...anyone have the corrected list?

OUCH!

Boy did I get spanked in a WT letter to the editor by Kim Alexander who is the treasurer of CARE. Read and let me know what you think...Should I reply or not. I'm itching to reply in the sense of saying that it was Doan's lies that were upsetting. I feel like listing them them along with his biggest lie of credentials as a registered engineer under oath. Fraud??

Kim Alexander was upsetting by telling 15 year old girls to "go home and tell their parents to vote for Joe Doan".

BTW-The West Shokan general store is in legal limbo as Doan had a final falling out with his partners.

Dorothee Telson gave me snappy name tags with our graphic and a space to write your name. The candidates have personalized tags. Anybody want them, let me know. I'll bring them on Monday pm......

Tomorrow: Campaigning at the soccer fields in late am, uptown Woodstock in the early afternoon, and Bradley Meadows in late afternoon. There is a small crew being assembled, anybody? Any candidates want to show up and spread their good cheer?

Sunday: have only one volunteer so far to campaign in Woodstock Sunday

Tommorrow is also the opening for the Phoenicia Little League... at the Phoenicia School.

I'm not sure of the time but there is a parade in the morning and I believe the games start right after.

If anyone is interested in campaigning I can find out the exact details.

This weekend is probably not good for most students to "meet and greet". SAT's are tomorrow morning (ugh), and AP tests start Monday, so lots of studying... I've got about five students who are interested in campaigning during this week, and more to approach... I have three who said that they would do a shift in phone calls... and VOTE! signs can probably be constructed after school on Tuesday and Wednesday. The art teacher isn't sure, but she thinks it will be fine (as long as we don't try to solicit particular votes).

With regards to distribution of the voting records of Rose and Doan, Mrs. Ruben was not available when I went during SH to ask her. I have a feeling it will be fine, and plan on bringing the materials to school with me on Monday (though I will be testing for most of the day). I'll ask Mrs. Ruben during homeroom, but I really can't see this as being a problem.

Tobey, if you can't make the candidate-student meeting next Friday, I believe we have a video camera available, so no pressure.

See you all Monday.

A few things for the candidates to consider attending.

All of the Olive baseball teams will be playing their first games on this Saturday at Shokan Park.

The spring soccer teams will be playing at Woodstock Comeau fields on Sunday from 12:00-1:30 or thereabouts.

We have the permission to quietly and casually solicit people at the Shokan Square as well as the Tomassian Plaza where "Get the Scoop" is located.

Two deadlinmes left for weeklis.. sharpen those pens!

We need to choose which ad to place in the Phoenicia Times...I believe they have only one more issue...coming out next Thursday...before the election. Should we run the Letter to Voters? Full page? Need to choose. Tobe

Please take note that my email has changed to:

mrebock@hotmail.com

Our SOS meetings always energize me...good seeing everyone.

I've started putting out signs, many asking me for signs, I saved a bunch for candidate host houses in Shandaken.

Neil, please email me or call me...are you coming May 5th and are you all set with directions? I didn't get a chance to touch base with you at Thursday meeting.

FYI: Woodstock Soccer League has 2 regular practices, Sat 10-11:30 & Wed 5-6:30. This spring, for the first time, West Hurley has joined Woodstock so they can participate in the AYSO spring league, so every practice is crowded with players and parents in every age group. Additionally, the games are on Sunday at 1pm, and tomorrow at least one team from Olive will be there plus I don't know what other teams.

all the phone numbers for woodstock and bennet are at either sandra or joe huben. melisa has phoenicia. curry, i can help sunday morning

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Attention all candidates: John Mower, who owns the flea market space on Maple Lane says that his opening day will be May18 (Sat) and we are welcome to put out a booth there. Call him at 679-6744 to let him know you're coming. It's a great opportunity and it's free.

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

We had a great day of campaigning in Woodstock today. Eli & I started at the soccer fields, then met Kathy, Neil, Dorothee, Bruce, & Noah in town. Kathy and I worked the stores in the middle of town, the others were on the street and at Bradley Meadows. We gave away all our brochures and lots of signs.

The response was very positive. People either supported us already, or were receptive to our message. Lots of people didn't know about the election at all, and I think that's what street campaigning is about.

Tomorrow, Sunday, I'm busy all day. Morty said he'd campaign and so did Gloria Bailey. Whoever & whenever is where it's at, kind of free form, but at the usual locations. I think every few minutes spent, every person talked to can be the difference !!!

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Great campaigning...I was in front of Hurley ridge yesterday and Sunflower this PM (3PM) and got the great receproion i hoped for. I even approached a few old-time locals who took the brochure and at least didn't yell at me.(!) Doan's candidate stemnet was found at Millman's Pharmacy and is making the rounds. pretty pathetic , but shows what he's planning to say at meet the candidates night. Jim will give them to the candidiates tomorrow..have fun...see you Monday 7 PM at the high school. Candidaters: Don't forget a short staement... tobe

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Sounds like everyone had a great day on the campaign trail.

The next SOS meeting will be taking place on Thursday at 7pm at Sandy Cassese's home. Try to attend as we will be discussing phone banks and such. Please post Sandy's phone, address and directions.

Tomorrow will be campaigning at the Koffee Klatches.

I like the flea market idea and will bring it up at this weeks meeting.

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

The flea market idea could be fun, but my experience there is that most shoppers are out of towners...The important thing is the expression of support from Mower (a republican and former school board member)

If there are no objections I will invite Joe Huben onto the bbs. By day's end, unless I hear otherwise. I also know him from earlier times, and approve heartily of his getting involved. Tobe

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

Actually, John Mower made a point that he was 'non sectarian' and anyone was welcome to set up a booth. I do think he has some leanings our way, tho. He's republican with a small r.
