I have goats on the campmeeting grounds,but we now have to many.I live in Sparks Oklahoma none of our goats are reg.Diffrent breeds some even mixed,I need to sale some but don't know what to charge for them,adults and babies some bucks,also should I leave them as bucks ,which way sales better.Now they tell me I should sale some of the milk but don't know how much to charge for it ,lol.Can any one help me,thank you all so much,you always give me so much good advice which I need so bad.Pastor Hughes

with the adults, depending if there dairy or meat breeds, can range from, you can't give them away, to $50. the babies are about the same but probably a bit easier to get rid of since the're cute. for sure castrate the bucks since most people want purebreed bucks to breed does and weathers(sp?) for pets.

i don't know where sparks is, but adult does should bring more than 50, even if they aren't registered, and the babies should bring 40-50 around weaning (3-4 months) since they aren't registered castrate those bucks-it's not hard to do, except on the real big uns, and if there's a sale barn close, haul what excess you don't sell up there. you may not get a great price, but anything is better than nothing. and those kids can be registered, as native on appearance and bred up from there through adga. milk should sell anywhere from $1 a quart upto $2 a quart, depending on the area. ethnic markets, by the way, really like goat meat-are there any muslims, hispanics, around you? put up a sign at the local store-kids 35-40, adult does 65 if they are in good condition-band the bucks and sell them 95 c. a pound or whatever they are bringing at the nearest sale barn.

I would think the easiest way would be to just load up the goats you don't want anymore and just take them to a livestock auction. By the time you pay a vet for the castration fees it will take away from the profit, you will probably only come out about even. So just sell them at a auction and let someone else worry about having them fixed. Plus you get rid of them all at once which is a great peice of mind. Check around at your local feed stores, they will probably know of where they have auctions and swaps.

How far are you from Reno. I am too far so I have to catch a trucker on the way to a livestock auction. Now do you have to have scrapie tags for goats. I sure do for sheep. I live in SE OK.

I just look at things differently. I refuse to sell for a loss. Now that doesn't mean that I don't give away goats to folks who will give them a good home, or sell for discounts to 4H kids, participate in kid goat giveaway programs and the like. But...........milk costs me money to produce, 2$ a gallon is just barley breaking even certainly not paying labor, costs me right at 300$ a year to keep an adult doe in top shape so that means she has to sell this amount of milk or kids to earn her keep. Does on the show string make money in PR. Though I will sell first fresheners bucklings for 50$ the day they are born, you would go broke selling goats for that unless they are only pastured. Start adding up that hay for winter, the grain you feed while milking or nursing, meds, wormers, tack, equipment, barns, water, and you have alot more money than 50$ in the goat. The reason your goats are worth 50$ is because that is what you sell them for. Once you get known for cheap stock, thats the only clientel you will have. Unless the goats are just scrub animals left in the woods to fend for themselves, it is entirely to much work to do this for free, I would put them in the freezer before I would sell them at auction for god knows how little.

Pastor Hughes if you really want to make a profit, selling meat and milk than have a vision for yourself. Yes take all the bucklings at 8 weeks to the auction. You also need to sell animals with health problems and bucks who are not going to improve your stock. You can't record kids with ADGA unless they come from a purebred buck, so get rid of any bucks that you don't physically have paperwork on, and you can't record any kids that come from known meat breeds, so if any of your moms are nigerian dwarf, pygmy, angora, boer or fainter than sell them and their offspring. Get down to a manageble size of the best does, and purchase yourself a good purebred dairy buck.

Putting pen to paper I can also show you how you could sell all of your stock right now, buy a couple of really nice purebred does, have part of the sale on contract, a breeding this fall, and you will have less does eating less grain and hay, who will make you considerably more money in the long run than all your crosses put together, and they will eat all the brush in the campground, will be tamer and a heck of alot more pleasing to the eye. Nothing prettier than Purebred diary does grazing under the trees with dollar signs in their eyes. Vicki
