Fair price for meat rabbits breeders (New Zealand and Florida Whites)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I am interested in getting started in raising meat rabbits. Two breeds seem the best from what I have read: New Zealand Whites and Florida Whites. What is a fair price for breeders (not necessary they have pedigree papers as they will not be shown)? Thanks for your help! Blessings to all. Randall

Californians are another good meat breed. Cost depends on your location. If you want good young stock figure atleast $10.00-$20.00 each, without papers. Were are you located?

Might consider Satins- which have a side line of having an excellent coat, or possibly Flemish Giants which get bigger quicker than most other breeds, but do require larger cages than other breeds. I have had good results crossing a New Zealand white doe with a Flemish Giant buck. 10 to 20, maybe a bit more for really top of the line stuff is in line. Try contacting the ARBA for breeders in your area. They should have a web site. American Rabbit Breeders Association, is what it stands for.

I am buying some young breeding stock this weekend. One male and five does for 15$ each. That is almost a 2 hour drive to Minneola, Tx included because I couldn't find any here in Dallas. You would think that in a city with 3 million people in it you could find a few rabbits!
