Help - incubator too hot!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Help please. A friend is incubating chicken eggs for me. At 9 PM last night all was well. At 6:30 AM this morning incubator was too hot (118 degrees). Not sure how long temp was this high, but incubator appears to have malfunctioned & temp can not be adjusted. Can these eggs be saved (they were on day 13) or should they be tossed? Thanks!

At 118 degrees the eggs are goners UNLESS your thermometer is broken. Usually over 104 is too hot, eggs can take low temperatures for a limited length of time, but the heat is just too much.

I agree with Bonnie. If it's not the thermometer you might as well toss them and try again. That's a heck of a temperature spike!

Thanks for the responses - I'll have her check thermometer in other incubator, but it sure doesn't sound good.
