Bishop Pompallier comes Home

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have to let you all know of the joyous occasion recently for the Church here in NZ with the return of the remains of Bishop Pomallier from the place of his birth and death in France. As founder of the Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand Bishop Pompallier lived and worked in this country for over 30 of the most eventful and stirring years of our history. He was Aotearoa New Zealand's first Catholic bishop.

Kiwi: thanks for the link to Bishop Pompallier. I read it through and it brought me back to my High School days. I went to High School with the Marist Fathers in Mexico City, and there I learned about Bishop Pompallier, St. Peter Chanel, Jean Claude Colin, Bl. Marcellin Champagnat and many other excellent priests and brothers. The Lord may be glorified and thanked for all these people who brought the Catholic Faith to the South Pacific.

Since your first post I was wondering about your name: KIWI. It certainly spoke clearley of NZ origin.

Hi Enrique, yes the Marist Brothers are very strong in this part of the world as well. You are right to guess I am from NZ, I keep posting accidently under kiwi as it is the name I use on other forums. God Bless Courtenay
