old screw mount leicas better for candids..

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Sunday,in toronto with all the promise of getting wet and cold,i went with some photo friends to lookat some of the galleries. Its Photo month here, with hundreds of exibitions.Except for Canadas weather which always dissapoints, the trio embarked on a shoot and look. Well all i can say, that Larry with an old 111c and 50mm elmar was merrily snapping away in restaurants and coffee shops. The camera really is way smaller than an M. Nobody paid any attention! It fit so well into his hands,it was barely noticeable.I found i was way slower as well!i'm the pro!Larry the amateur.Eloise did a single Polaroid, which she manipulated while we had glorious coffees and beer along Queen Str.The stopping and really studying a photograph just taken another thought!I guess there still a place for those old Leicas...

The screw-mount Leicas are indeed small and quiet, and some of the greatest photographs of all time have been taken with them. But I simply can't see through those little viewfinders. I like my Leica CL, which is just as small and has a better viewfinder.

The Leica IIIs are hard to focus , and slow.

Try screw lenses with the Bessars. Much faster and more accurate.

The old Leica's III series has a longer effective Rangefinder baseline than the Bessa R of mine...In fact my 1956 Zorki3c has a more accurate rangefindre than my Bessa...
