Elmarit 28mm 3rd version lens hoodgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
I have a third version Elmarit 28mm with its lens hood (#12536). This lens hood has no cut out in one corner to reduce finder blockage. However this picture shows a third version and a hood with a cut out. Was this lens ever supplied with a cut out lens hood or am I looking at a hood that has met the dangerous end of a Dremel tool?http://www.kbcamera.com/Leica28andHood.jpg

Bert, I have one of the hoods with the cut out for the third version 28 Elmarit M which I can sell reasonably. It doesn't block the viewfinder quite as much as the solid one. Contact me by email if you are interested. I'm not sure when Leica used the solid hood or the one with the cut out. I had both hoods with a third version 28 and the solid one went with the lens when I sold it. Cheers.

The early ones came with a hood with no cut out and the later ones came with a hood with the cut out. It is very easy to "cut out" the cut out.Mind you take it off the lens before performing any surgery...

Thanks for clarifying the hood issue. I have more than once thought about cutting out one corner. I haven't done so because I lack the proper tools and doubt my ability to do it neatly. If I want a cut out hood I think I'd better try to locate one rather than risking ruining the one I have now.Gil thanks for the offer but I'd like to try my local resources first.

Mine, hood #12536 has no cutout either, can't say it interferes too much as I cannot see all the frame at once anyway with my .72 M6 and eyeglasses!!doesnt stop it getting great images though, imho the 2.8 28mm is hugely underrated

My version III with non-cutout hood annoys me with how much finder image it cuts off. I do have a Dremel, and could introduce the hood to the dangerous end, but I don't imagine it would change things much. The VIII is just too long, hood or no hood. I'm very happy with its image quality, though.

I should have typed, "V-III." I made it look like ROman numeral eight.
