buying equipment through this forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I noticed that there are many equipment FS on this forum. My question is how many of you do buy equipment on this forum and what are the responses from the buyers? Any negative feedbacks and if so what can be done about it?

Sincerely,

Edward Yu

Edward I've had the pleasure of doing business with Eric Kragtwijk. He lives in the Netherlands and I in Wisconsin. Our deal went off without a hitch and we were both very satisfied with the results. If you look at other posts on this forum you will find many regular contributors. I'm sure if you ask for feedback they will be honest in their comments. While there is always the possibilty of a scam I'd feel fairly safe purchasing from any of our regulars. All the sellers that I've read about on the forum usually under-rate their gear as far as condition is concerned. Regards Andy

Edward - I offered a Weston V lightmeter "to a good home." I sent it, and I received a check following delivery. IMHO, the Ivory Soap people (99.4% pure) on this list are honest. As with any Internber transaction, there's a little bit of risk; however,I'd say that here, it's much less than on e-bay.

I have done business in terms of sales and trades with many folks on this and other forums. It's always been a pleasure.

I bought a 35/2A from someone who posted here. I don't know if he's a regular, but he had good eBay feedback, and I was completely satisfied.

It's nice that many appear to have had good experiences. But, as the fine print says, past performance is no guarantee of future returns.

Bear in mind that you can also check "neighbor to neighbor" in Photo.net.

Buying from the internet is always a risky business, though I believe that because most the people who access this site are real Leica enthusiasts, therefore they should in theory not be dodgy people (I hope!). This is the main reason why people pay extortionate prices from a dealer for this extra piece of mind. Have some trust in your fellow Leica folk! ;]

just completed a transaction with Jack Flesher - no problems whatsoever. must echo the advice to work with a "regular" and see if you can get an ebay user to check their feedback there.

i beleive we should support the locally owned camera dealer and not the chains for good advice, banter, and peace of mind. i'm glad to have the resource. although, i use ebay too.

Olivier is recommended as my sale with him went smoothly.

BUT WATCH out for Mitchell Li. He stuffed me around for two weeks- even saying he sent the money!!!

I've bought a delightful print from a forum contributor, am sending for another image from another forum person on Tuesday, and because of glowing reports of Jack's dealings, I'm doing a transaction with him this week.
