greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

My Leica M6 it follows me everywhere all it requires is film.It is a hand built quality craftsmans tool with the finest lenses ever built. It will never let me down in any extreme conditions and does not require things like batteries to work.If i am not good enought to work out my own exposures and be able to focus it well i should not own it.It will last me a life time and if i am ever poor and need to sell it it will get my money back for me.It is a true friend asks little gives much.I wish all my friends were so loyal.

Just my thoughts.

OK man...As far as objects go, I love my M6. But, really, please, get a life!

Some of us here are getting a little ridiculous, and it can have deleterious effects on mental health.

Seriously, try not to get so damn obsessive about a piece of metal. A Leica is a tool--nothing more, nothing less. Get a grip man!

-- Mister Anonymous (mranon@home.com), June 01, 2002.

Mmm a very nice tool thought.

-- Allen Herbert (allen1@btinternet.com), June 01, 2002.

This is my Leica. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Leica is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Leica, without me, is useless. Without my Leica, I am useless. I must shoot my Leica true.....

(etc etc as per the US Marines paraphrased)

I have a Leica, but I actually like my AR15 target rifle a little better. John

I have a Leica but I really like my Minolta SRT101 as well!

There an old Buddhist saying: "See your crystal glass already broken."

Translation...no thing is eternal...not even your M6! You could drop it on a cement floor or in the ocean today! It's just a tool.

The important values in life are relationships...to others and to the Eternal One.

"hand built quality"..."it will never let me down"..."last me a lifetime"..."need to sell it it will get my money back"...must be Leica in a parallel universe. As we speak my 6 year old M6 classic (mint, used lightly but continually, never sat around to get gummy) is now in Sherry's shop with a busted frameline mechanism (no drop, no knock, just quit working)and after I pay the bill there's no way I could sell it and get my money back...at least not in this universe.

Jay - you too, eh. My preview lever has mysteriously quit working - maybe my best friend is sulking?

-- rob (rob@robertappleby.com), June 01, 2002.

Allen...I know all about loyalty right about now. My girlfriend has I think finally parted ways. But, nothing but a human girl can take the place of her. It is nice to have these other things in our lives however that give us some kind of comfort. Some things that are constants. Blue skies, sunrises, etc., and the Leica M! Anyway, thanks for sharing...

A Sunny Sunday Thought, Friends,

Shouldn't there be a Leica Singles Club? I'm serious.

Best,

Alex

I'll take my M3 over a girl any day... my 2002 BMW M3, that is... LOL.

-- john costo (mahler@lvcm.com), June 02, 2002.

get a grip on reality

I love my leica but I'd swap it anytime for my wife and 3 sons!!( even when the three boys are running wild around the house and yelling)

-- John Tobias (johntobias@hotmail.com), June 02, 2002.

Common you guys, give Allen a break! We are all to a certain degree attached to our equipment. Its more like our penis though than a friend. Its an extension of our maleness, like the BMW M3.

-- John (jamriman@yahoo.com), June 02, 2002.

John, I bet there are women who love their Leicas. So, for them, it's more like... what? My, what clichés! BTW, does anynody know that "cliché" in French also means "photo"?

No where did I see A.H. say anything about trading his Leica for family memebers, or friends. Maybe this is a Freudian slip (a secret desire) on the part of the posters to ditch family, wife, kids, responsibily? Explain yourselves! I, too, carry my Leitz M6/Elmar-M 24/7, usually in an M Classic's Bag. Certainly to work and back. And if not in the M Classic's Bag, then in a Lowepro Waist Pouch. Even if I run a couple of blocks to the store, for milk and eggs. But I use my M, as HCB would say, as a notepad, to make a quick sketches of my reality. So what? It's mine, I paid for it, I can do whatever I want with it. And no, it's not my friend, or a tool, it's my (love) slave!

Hmm... maybe my penis is my best friend, come to think of it. It follows me everywhere. Asks little gives much. Lasts a lifetime. Does not require things like batteries to work (yet).

Ho!

-- rob (rob@robertappleby.com), June 02, 2002.

Allen: My Leica M6 it follows me everywhere all it requires is film.

My dog follows me everywhere and all he needs is dog food. My Leica is the non-, self-mobile model. I have to remember to take it.

One other advantage, my dog has not required a CLA. ;<)

Sorry Art, I have to ask, has your Leica ever pooped on your rug?

-- Glenn Travis (leicaddict@hotmail.com), June 02, 2002.

Art, your dog never takes a dump? And you never take it to a Vet? That's CLA if I ever smelled one.

-- Marc Williams (mwilliams111313MI@comcast.net), June 02, 2002.

That's very sad, Allen. Don't you have any real friends? I'm sorry.

-- Willhelmn (wmitch3400@hotmail.net), June 02, 2002.

Glenn:

Sorry Art, I have to ask, has your Leica ever pooped on your rug? Why would he do that? He has many, many acres for that purpose.

The dog didn't cost anything; someone released him into the wild [we live in the wild, ;<)] when he was just a few weeks old. He came with two very good lenses. He can herd sheep, tree squirrels and chase coyotes from the chicken shed. He is still less than a year old so I suspect he will improve. By the way, his shutter hasn't failed yet. ;<)

By the way, it should have said:

By the way, his shutter hasn't failed yet, so you know he isn't a German Sheperd. ;<)

I'm with Allen, of all my friends and lovers my Leica is the one that's never let me down or one I've ever doubted. You can't even get dogs that are that loyal!

-- Philip Woodcock (phil@pushbar.demon.co.uk), June 02, 2002.

My Leica M3 still works; but this board tonight only allows me on this one thread!
