I just got a 75 from Ben C at a good price. i've never spent so much on a lens before, although, the money is not a problem. It's a beatiful lens, but big and heavy, completely against my philosophy. it does balance well on the camera. i'm more of a wide-angle guy. i love playing with the voigt 12.I will never get a 35 ASPH if it never gets cheaper than $1000 in good shape, as it's so much bigger than my 35 cron. I will never buy another 50 noct/lux (sold one) for over $1200/$500 as they're too heavy, i didn't like the properties of the noct (shinozuka) and i don't use my other 50's (dr, cron) that much. I will never buy a 90 apo for more than $800 because of it's bulk and i don't use my 90's (cron, tele-rit) much either (<<50's).
so why go nuclear with the 75?
i did like the shinozuka photos, not to mention dixon's. it won't be a bad investment if i don't like it (see the nyse lately). and since i'm working in the states for the next 18 months, i don't have to travel far with it. i guess i want to play with it and the tele side of things again. call me a sinner.
i sure would like to see more photos from the gallery (you).

So....what's the point of this posting?.........................

Obviously he wants to see more 75mm photography. Just like it says in the last line.

Tony, could we have a rule here to ban all anonymous or unsigned posts? I think they're rude and cowardly. On this particular thread, we know who I'm talking about. Thank you.

steve, one step (and a half perhaps) behind you. I hope to pick one up soon against all rim and reason. I can hear it call my name...What did you pay (email me offline if necessary)
namaste,

When do you plan to sell the 75?
-- Don M (maldos@cox.net), June 07, 2002.
pat, for the benefit of the community and not to undercut the for- salers whom advertise here, which i've been accused of off-line, i paid $1100 shipped w/leica filter and both caps.the only post factory flaw is a very, very slightly visible nick in the finish on the focus ring.
as for a plan to sell, i am a very poor seller, as my inclination to play and make different types of images is more important to me than recycling/cycling through equipment. there is always a storage unit for the little (non-photographically/LP playback) i actually own. no house, no car, no furniture...

You will never buy a 90APO for more than $800, why you paid $1100 for the 75?
-- Mitchell Li (mitchli@pacbell.net), June 07, 2002.
Olivier ; Mr Applemac is a regular on this board; maybe he just goofed
-- Kelly Flanigan (zorki3c@netscape.net), June 07, 2002.
mitch,1. because i don't have a 75
2. because i have two 90's
3. because it is a good price, find one better
4. because it is one stop faster...twice the light
5. because it is smaller than the 90 cron
6. because i want to play with it
-- steve (leitz_not_leica@hotmail.com), June 07, 2002.
7. because the performance does not significantly outperform my 90 cron or tele-elmarit, not withstanding the asph/apo marketing campaign. i'll never buy a 135 apo for more than $600 for the same reason. it's the play/pay ratio does not give my a significant motivation or anticipated results to try.

You don't have to justify getting a 75 to anyone but yourself. ; )The artist promo shot below was done with the 75 wide open at 1/50.

Olivier, I understand and appreciate your point of view. I'm not sure I'd go so far as "rude and cowardly," but I do think a posting gathers more respect from members when it is signed. Remember, though, that all of us really are "anonymous" to some extent, just some of us are less anonymous than others.

Well said Tony! What ever happened to freedom of speech... You never know who is really posting what...
