Well, it looks like this forum is available at photo.net with archives up to the following thread "urgent: I am in paris; and need a good b&w shop (phillip silitschanu, 2002-06-02)"

I don't know when this is going to be shut down, but i think the idea is that we move over there... because this forum will close soon - and all messages posted after the one i mentioned will not be there... They migrated it there... and nicely all the questions/responses i have made were also migrated to my account there - very nice!

Yes, this forum has moved to photo.net. Within a couple of days, the forum will become read-only at this location, and by the end of next week LUSENET will start redirecting URL's to the new location of the forum at photo.net.

Any messages posted between the snapshot taken on June 2 and the last message posted here will also eventually be moved; so if you would like to reply to messages that have not yet moved, please do so. But we urge you to post any new questions in the forum on photo.net.

Phill, one of the advantages of photo.net over LUSENET, is that we have the ability to ban users. I notice, for example, that both the philkneen@manx.net and phitkneen@manx.net email addresses are banned on photo.net. So, I don't think we'll be seeing those ID's on photo.net.

phil, this is the last time I'll be responding to you directly. One of the nice features that the moderators have on photo.net is that you have to register and provide a verifiable email address in order to get your password. We also have a very nice little facility that lets us look at all postings from new members whose email addresses are associated with "free" or otherwise questionable domains such as hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc. I've just added manx.net to the list. This allows us to just zap nonsense postings. No trouble at all. Takes a couple of minutes per day. Actually get a kick out it since it gives the illusion of great power.

So you see, your pathetic little IP proxy isn't going to be much fun for you on photo.net.

Proxy IP's only change what your IP is on the inside of a network, not on the outside (the outside is the one photo.net sees)... i would be surprised if you know how to route traffic through an external IP on your behalf... I am also pretty certain photo.net can block MAC hardware addresses, so you are going to need to buy a new network card every time you are banned. Though, if you know how to bypass this (which i really doubt) it will be fun to keep up with you.

Joe, do they have any choice? I mean, these are Philip Greenspun's sites (LUSENET and photo.net) and if he wants to consolidate them, then they're geting consolidated. I guess the LF forum could always go to Yahoo or something.

Photo.net contacted Q.-Tuan Luong about moving the forum, like, a year ago. Mr. Luong posed the question to the forum members, who were nearly unanimously opposed. So he declined. Now its happened anyway.

Choice? I understand that Lusenet is going away. It remains to be seen where that forum will end up. Lots of alternatives are under discussion.

I'm sure that those familiar with photo.net realize that its primarily an EOS club. Discussion of Leica there in the past has always been met with hostility, to put it mildly.

Perhaps all those folks won't necessarily wander over and flood the Leica forum with posts telling us that the prices are "obscene" and how Leica users are a bunch of snobs. But that's been the prevailing sentiment, which is why I don't spend any time at photo.net any more. I'd be surprised if we don't see a lot of that, at least initially.

Why on earth would we want to keep the Leica forum in two places, or, worse, just on LUSENET instead of photo.net? I see no reason whatsoever to keep the Leica forum on LUSENET when the photo.net service is so much better in terms of reliability (uptime) and functionality (searching). photo.net has many benefits, not the least of which is the login requirement to keep out the pests and bozos. Also, I see the more widespread public exposure of photo.net over LUSENET as an advantage.
