*Cuts his last post* *Pastes it on this thread* Thank you, good night! That's the gist!

I already explained about you last post AO! But if I must, you wont need a computer, you can use your ps2. All you need to buy is a modem whitch runs off of your current ISP for $35(and you get a free copy of twisted metal: black). And ffXI (for about $10-$15), and a keyboard (if you want) for probably around $30. and your set! Then you pay $10 a month (whitch is the normal for MMORPGs -Masivly Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game-) for UNLIMITED access to it! but I am bummed about the whole " can't kill other people thing " oh, and you will probably get a month or so free like in all other MMORPGs

No, all that I understand. I just don't want to pay a monthly fee. That is bullshit.
-- Anonymous, June 19, 2002
I see, and understand... but it's not that bad, let's just say you play 8hr. a day (ha, that's an under estimate.) for the whole month. That's 240hr. that's 30cents a hour... try getting a collect call for less than that! and that's only a 20min. one!.. but not to let that confuse anyone, you get unlimited access. but yeah, I can see it bumming some people out.. but it's $120 for a whole year of -20hr a day for some of us- access to it. I know once you play the free month you wont give a damn about the charge... I know too well the effectiveness of an MMORPG... it's like digital cocaine sent in pactes of a month of the internet. (guess how ever quest got it's title) *Ever Crack*.

You see, paying for a game online defeats the whole purpose of playing online. Remember back in the good old days, with Quake clans, and when Gamespy didn't suck? How about MUD? When it was all free, and all you had to really worry about was your own internet bill. Now we have these RPGs online, and paying for them just seems like a waste...even if it is $10 a month, it's still defeating the purpose of online gaming. Thats why I'm against FF XI, Everquest, the new Star Wars game thats in development...all of it. I might as well go back and play FF I again...insane amounts of fun, and I didn't have to pay for it.

Here's my thing. The monthly fee doesn't sound SO bad, AP, when you break it down like that, but consider the following scenario: Asylum *SpElUnNk* Outpatient buys the necessary equipment and begins playing FFXI. Pacing himself, he beats the game...say...6 weeks later. A year later, being bored, he starts it again, never having played it in those 12 months. Am I still paying for the game over that year, or does it only accumulate on months when you're actually playing the game? The monthly charge for ACTIVE months I could get used to, but in the meantime, I also have a phone, television, rent, car, and bitches. My funding is slim! That's the gist!

True firescreamer, but AO, the game never ends.. so you wont beat it... you may get bored... but then you can cancell you account.. basicly you pay a month in advance, then if you dont want to play after that cancell your acount and don't pay anymore. oh and Firescreamer, didn't the MUD games used to be text based ??
-- Anonymous, June 20, 2002
Oh for a text based RPG for free telnet (open start and then run and type telnet if you use windows) and connect to lambda.moo.mud.org, and follow it from there.
-- Anonymous, June 20, 2002
Yes, the old MUDs were text based, and fun as all hell. Can't find any of my old servers though...guess everyone's playing Evercrap.
-- Anonymous, June 20, 2002
*Crack, and I suggested a MUD that is pretty cool. you can telnet.. or search for it with google (or your preferd sdeach engine) it's lambdaMOO. telnet into at lambda.moo.mud.org and yes.. I have and enjoyed playing EverCrack. and many other MMORPGs..

It never ends? No ending? No Chaos? No Zeromus? X-Death? Kefka? Sephiroth? Ultimecia? Necron? Yu Yevon? You're right, Pyro, I would definitely get bored. If there's no ending or big bad guy to kill, then what does the plot revolve around? I probably could use your hyperlink to look all this up, but you're better at explaining this stuff.

Hmm... from what I have heard/read they will have various deep running story lines that will end within the game, but the game will never end because they will have story lines that change the world in diffrent ways, if they do it like Ultima Online, they are called senarios, and you always get some new knowledge or skill when the senario is completed by the characters of the game, it's how the game keeps intresting, then they will have the good old fashion competition of power between towns... should be realms but owell... the more land you explore and live through, the more power is awarded to your land, and when killing monsters you can find various crystals that award you with special options like equiping magic to your weapons. or strength 'n stuff... so even if you dont want to do the senarios you can compete for controll of the lands.. still not happy with the "no PvP" thing.. but maybe they'll change their minds. oh and they will implement the senario and game changes via 'patches' patches are little updates usually about twice a month to fix various things wrong in the game and to add new items/monsters/skills/ anything they want.. they usually take about 2 min. for smaller.. when you first get the game you will have a big patch, in Ultima Sense it's been out for about 4yrs, the first patch is about 1hr 30min-2hr long on a 56k modem -cursed things!-.. the ffXI will be much shorter sense it hasn't even came out yet.
