before I got the chickens,, everything went into the compost bin. BUt, since the "girls" arrived,, I dont put much into the bins anymore,, I let them pick and choose so I usally just throw it into their yard. I do , once in awhile get some lake weeds or such, and will put a load in, but the girls will scratch it all out anyways in their quest for crawlies. What do you do with the kitchen compost? How do you maintain a working compost with chickens?

We put up 2" X 4" X 6'high fence around the pile, some old used fence we'd taken down. It keeps them out and we end up with 'black gold'. I put the bedding from the chicken coop in my compost pile too, although I don't know if I'm supposed to; but it works for us. We have two fenced piles so we move it back & forth to turn it.
