Fr. John Corapi on Focus TV

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I love Focus Christian TV with Archbishop Hannan and MaryLou McCall which is on the Prayer Channel in NYC. Fr. John Corapi was interviewed on last night's show and I just could not believe how inspiring his story is. Does anyone here know of Fr. Corapi and his wonderful story? Did anyone see the show or have any info on him? MaryAnn

Absolutely!! Fr. Corapi is one of THE most knowledgable and inspiring persons I have ever heard. He graduated Suma Cum Lauda (4.0) in like 5 different degrees! But not just that, but he is very orthodox, and is not into the "new times" garbage that many priests use to please the "majorities". Fr. Corapi will stand up for what is just and true, no matter how many people will leave. He came 2 years ago to my parish and spoke. He speaks with such authority! I would recommend anyone to speak to this guy or listen to him! Thanks for the post, Maryanne.

In Christ.

Dear Mary Ann,

Thank you so much for that post about Fr. Corapi. I never heard about him until I read your post.

That is what is so good about this forum. There is always something new to learn.

I typed his name in the search engine and came up with this for those who do not know Fr. Corapi.

A late vocation, Fr. Corapi's life experiences prior to ordination are simply astounding and truly show the great work of God through our Blessed Mother. Filled with the desire to "be somebody", he embraced the promises of the world. From athletics to soldiering to millionaire businessman, his life became a string of successes that always left him flat and empty. But God was molding him. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Fr. Corapi began to see light where before there was only darkness. After a series of trials, he soon felt the unmistakable call to become a priest. Eleven years of life as a religious and four university degrees later (including a doctorate in Sacred Theology), Fr. Corapi was ordained in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome by the Holy Father, Pope John Paul 11.

Called to the contemplative life, his superiors have also discerned that he has the gift of "Apostolic Preaching" (teaching the truths of the Faith with such authority and clarity that even the hardest hearts might be brought closer to God). When not in his hermitage, he is out preaching the "Good News" of our Lord Jesus He gives his powerful witness of hope and mercy at conferences and parishes across the country.

Fr. Corapi currently resides in the diocese of Sacramento, CA where he recently served as Director of the Diocesan Office of Catholic Faith Formation and as the Director of the Bishop's Special Project on the Catechism.

I want to learn more about him. We need more priests like him, one who speaks the truth about our faith, not what people want to hear, but what we 'need to hear.'

Thanks again, MaryAnn

Maryann,

My wife and I attended a three day retreat which was led by Fr. Corapi. Every one of his talks were inspiring. He discussed his life in his first talk. Quite an amazing story. I would definitely attend again if he comes back to northeast Ohio.

MaryLu,

Is it just me, or does Fr. Corapi look strikingly similar to St. Padre Pio?

I'd bet a whole lot that Fr. Corapi ends up in the same place anyway :)

In Christ.

Hello, Jake

Jake, I read your comment to Marylu about betting a whole lot.

May St. Bernadine of Siena whose feastday is celebrated on May 20 in the Catholic Church help you if you ever need it. He is one of the Patron Saints for compulsive gambling.

Jake, I am just teasing you. :-)

God bless you

Maryann and friends,

I first heard Fr. Corapi's amazing conversion story [millionaire playboy in Hollywood, deadbeat drug addict, return to the Church, priesthood as a hermit, etc.] about five years ago. My Mom told me about him and forced a reluctant me to listen to him on tape. What a fool I was to have been reluctant! Fr. John is wonderful.

Every Sunday night at 8:00 to 9:00 Eastern time, for the past nine months or more, EWTN has shown Fr. John explicating the Catechism. This was a series taped in Sacramento. Father is standing on a platform speaking to a large crowd in an auditorium. It seems like a series of 40 or more weeks. He is getting near the end of the book. I'm sure that EWTN will repay it. I wish that I had videotaped it. I hope that all of you get to see it some day.

God bless you.
John

Hello, Faith

Marylu wants the real Catholicism. Read her last two sentences in this thread where she posted. Thank you for being kind to my friend Marylu in that other thread where you asked. You have a vey kind way about you.

God bless Marylu, and God bless you Faith for caring.

i would skip anything on tv to listen to fr. corapi,or skip seeing any movie. he is the real thing. i believe he is sent by God to help the world, he holds no punches. i would be so happy to meet him and listen to anything he would have to say. i miss mother angelica so much and i believe god made it possible for me to discover fr. corapi.i cant wait for sundays when he preaches on the catechism of the catholic church. i cant express how i love him i believe he speaks through God,something we could all use now in our times.i hope i dont sound like a nut but im a practicing catholis who loves her god and her church which seems to be out of style these days. people really look at you funny if you talk about God or Jesus.but i never think of that when im trying to help people to see the truth. barbara caico

You don't "sound like a nut," Barbara.
You sound great!
I share your admiration for Fr. Corapi. I hope that you will get to meet him some day.

Yes, God has truly blessed us with this priest life, and God's words are truly preached by him, and each of us who has been able to hear His preaching, knows that he we are able to grow closer to God., and that He has sent us someone to bring His message to the world...

I'm happy to have stumbled upon this page; I just caught Fr. Corapi's testimony(again) last night on radio. My brother is going through an incredible crisis which has brought up all my past experiences of emotional crisis and searching, making me realize there is a deep layer yet to be healed/surrendered. Listening to Fr. Corapi while nursing my infant in the darkened bedroom was such a balm for my soul. How he speaks of Mother Church! Of his LOVE for his priesthood. I was particularly moved by the evening before his ordination, when he stayed up all night in prayer with his superior, intermittently speaking to each other about the happiness they had in the priesthood.

To All Catholics, Until you have listened to Fr. Corapi on all matters of our Catholic Church and faith, you have not heard a true and faithful Catholic Christian Authority. As a person with accute pulmonary fibrosis, and my relationship to our Lord and Savior, Fr. Corapi as you might say makes my day! I listened to him on "Addictions", the other evening and was most amazed at Fr. Corapi's sincerity on his conviction on responsibily about our God given gifts of intellect and free will and our use of these graces. I hope to see Fr. Corapi when our good Lord calls us home in our next life. God Bless You Fr. Corapi and keep up your work and mission for our Lord. We Leave You in God's Care, Love and Mercy! I find him inspiring too.

I don't watch EWTN that much, but I always seem to be tuning in Sunday nights at eight when his series on the Chatechism is aired. Its great! And then Father Groeschel follows that at 9.

Its a great way to cap the weekend. BTW, I believe Father Corapi's Catechism series is available on CD.
