Tomorrow, July 11th, is the Feast Day of St. Benedict.

Today, I happened to purchase some biscuits for my puppy...they are called Sister Joan's Nutri-Bits...All Natural ingredients, no salt, no sugar, no additives or by-products.

When I got home I read the contents of the package further. Turns out that Sister Joan Schneider is a Benedictine nun in the community at St. Pual's Priory in St. Paul, MN, and royalties from the sale of this product are used for the retirement of religious orders.)

Just a thought, in honor of St. Benedict's feast day tomorrow.

If I were a dog I'm sure I would love hearing about the nutri-bits too, but I'm not and I'm sure you aren't either. LOL! But I got a kick out of the accidental wording.

I love having natural treats for my dogs. I discovered Sister Joan's Nutri-bits some years ago at Target. They are now difficult to find, for me. I am in Wyoming and do not have large stores that may carry the biscuits. Some time ago, I was glad to call Sister Joan's telephone number and actually talked with her and ordered a case. My supply is again low, and I had no luck at the PetPlanet address you suggested. I would try ordering by phone again, but now the package does not even list her telephone number. Any hints? I have just two bags left.

It is so wonderful to hear such good words about my auntie's treats! You know she developed them because one of her German Shepards had become ill and died. Shortly after she started looking closely at the ingredients in dog foods and treats and found that they often used diseased and decayed animal parts as well as dyes. (This was back in the 70's) Not long after that she started making them herself. I remember watching her mixing up the batter and putting it in the waffle iron. I asked her if we were having waffles for dinner and she laughed. "You can have some of these if you'd like but you may have to fight the dogs for them!" She's a character, my aunt, Sister Joan! You may also write her at the address provided by a previous entry because she does still reside in a home across from the St. Paul's Priory/Monastery in Maplewood, which of course she is a member of. Another nice thing to know about them is that they are "human grade" and can be eaten by anyone. To my taste buds, they are a little bland. Ahem...I had to try one...she made me. You can't say no to a nun!
