Was the Talbotton Railroad ever a part of the Southern Railway System? Did it get in via the Central of Georgia?

Answers

The short line Talbotton Railroad, of Georgia, was abandoned On January 28th, 1957, as a seperate railroad. The Southern Railway acquired the Central of Georgia RR on January 17th, 1963. I can find no record of the Talbotton RR being a part of either the SR or CofGa at that time.

Where all did the Talbotton RR go? There is still trackage and old roadbed/ bridges/ grade crossings, etc. coming out of Thomaston heading toward Talbotton, and I was wondering if that could have been part of it.

The Talbotton RR owned a seven mile long short line between Talbotton and Junction City(originally Bostwick), Ga., where it connected with the Central of Georgia. It was paralleled, in later years by the mainline of the Atlanta Birmingham & Coast(AB&C), an Atlantic Coast Line RR predecessor, which came south from Thomaston and also went through Junction City and further east. It would appear that the Talbotton right-of-way may have run along Ga Hwy 90, as one small map shows it being crossed by the AB&C about half-way to Junction City.
